The offense this year was lights out until the best athlete on the field gets hurt on the 2nd play of the last regular season game. It wasn't the same after that. No doubt about that, they could have probably won the majority of their games just by out scoring teams but no way they contend for a championship without the defensive turnaround.

i would agree it might seem less of an accomplishment if they didn't play so many other good teams. LA and CPA both proved they could hang with anyone this year. CPA beat 2 AAA teams. both hung with Oakland. LA mercy ruled Pulaski Academy who is now playing for the state championship in Arkansas and is ranked #2 in the state. I think it is clear that some no-so-good teams still make the playoffs because the division is so small which doesn't make it seem special. on a side note, if you haven't heard dilfer's story about why he is coaching high school to honor his young son who died tragically, google it. it's worth the read.

Powell's offense is their strong point, without question. But without the improved defense, there is no way they would have made it to Chattanooga.

I feel as if a lot of people have counted hampton out of this one and i wouldnt do that my friends it is DANGEROUS. This bulldog team has been overlooked all season long and has proved many wrong time and time again (myself included) and just has zero quit and miles and miles of grit and toughness. I understand this qb is a different animal they are facing but do not count the hampton boys out or you will be in for a rude awakening im telling you. That line of theirs and running game is just special. The team is just special. It will be a battle. Im hoping you dawgs can prove the doubters wrong yet again and bring that gold ball back to northeast tn. Win or lose all of carter county is extremely proud of you and those cyclones. I have sat back and read the thread and loved it. I see 2 very passionate fan bases who believe in each ones team. This should be the game to watch no doubt. That being said its hard to bet against the cyclones. I understand the senior leadership tullahoma has and that they are hungry for the teams first chance at a gold ball, are very physical, good coaching, and talent wise have athletes all over the field and whatnot but in my heart i feel the cyclones with their exceptional coaching, experience being on this stage before, hard nosed defense and just all around grit find a way to pull this one out and get a win. Just want to say good luck to both teams. Both Elizabethton and Tullahoma have worked hard all off season and season to get to this point. I hope these two physical teams put on a great show. I'm excited to see this game!

Tullahoma actually played 2-6A teams and then 12-4A teams and the 2-6A games were the only 2 non region/playoff games on the schedule due to Region 5 having 9 teams….no doubt Elizabethton has experience, great coaches, and great players on their side, just believe/hoping (don’t know if there is a difference when it comes to sports) Tullahoma can pull off the upset and put a gold ball in the trophy case to complete a great season and the 4 year career for the 22 Tullahoma seniors! It’s only taken Tullahoma 99 years to get to the Championship game.

i knew they had been playing great defense. I was looking at the defense stats for 5a. Springfield had only given u9 92 points in their 13 games this season and 29 of those where to Henry County in the 2 game s they played them. . Them and Powell where at the top.

This is the only time of year that Elizabethton gets the "weak schedule" thrashing that we receive all year long, every year I've never been one to be too concerned about a team's SOS...I guess the clones' two state titles kinda proves why

I have a hard time betting against a team that has beat 14 4A teams, a playoff bound 5A team and 3 6A teams in the same season. But we did give up a safety in a scrimmage so I guess anything is possible. I really don't know if we can play with the sun out though. It's been dark almost our whole season. But win or lose we will have carried the west side bracket as best as it could have been carried.

Well Gary Rankin was on WVLT Sports tonight saying rumors fly every year that this is his last year and he said he plans on coaching a few more years Lord willing. What he didn't say was anything about it being at Alcoa. Go online and watch it. Barney says someone is fixing to get a hall of fame coach locally and I hope it's Oak Ridge.

I will admit there were some calls against Maryville. Isiah Horton should have been thrown out for throwing a punch. Carson Jones fumble wasn't a fumble. Jordan James tried to jump over a Maryville player which should have been a penalty. DJ Burks was held on Oakland's 1st TD. Maryville also got away with a facemask on Jordan James. Bottom line is in the 2nd half Maryville could not stop Oakland from running it down their throat. Oakland shut down Maryville's offense the 2nd half.

After giving up 112 points in the first 2 games of the season against Anderson County and Maryville the Powell defense has just given up 112 in the last 12 games. I think that’s the difference on Friday, this entire unit is playing great football.

According to the latest 5 Star Preps article: Powell has allowed 7.8 ppg over the last 10 games Walter Nolen - 26 TFLs, 15 sacks, and 35 QB pressures Steven Soles - 12 TFLS, 16 sacks, and 41 QB pressures. They’ve become quite a duo as the season has progressed.

Nice job on these! From a West TN guy, I don't think Cavanaugh is with Munford anymore. He didn't wrestle in the post-season last year, and I haven't seen him in their lineup in a while. Moktani is also listed twice at 132. His name is Wemawamungu Moktani, but everyone calls him Mo Moktani from what I've heard. I'd also keep an eye on Christian Perez at 145. The Blackhorse at Houston this weekend will give everyone a better idea of where these guys (and others) stand.

I guess I'm one exception to already having the gold ball before it's earned. I was personally worried after watching the very first game this year and I'll stop there .The bottom line for Elizabethton is they are in the championship game and hopefully will use that hard nose defense to finish the deal.
