  1. For what it’s worth, Alcoa schedules who they can schedule. When the typical powerhouses refuse to play by using the old excuse of- “We have nothing to gain from playing Alcoa. If we win, we were supposed to win. If we lose, we got beat by a 3A school” gets old. You can’t have it both ways. These teams run from signing a two year deal, then folks like you want to bang our schedule. Get some of these schools you are thinking to call our athletic director and I’m sure he will try and work something out.

  2. The point about MAHS closing, and the kids enrolling at another school (not transferring) is unquestionable...what has people giving MASE the side eye is that the coach and entire team found their way there together, adding to the suspicious circumstances that they were all at MAHS from all over the city (and outlying communities) to begin with. Without the long history of this exact scenario (minus a closure) in Memphis, I doubt that anyone would more than raise an eyebrow, but this same situation plays out every season in Memphis. For you calling out Southtowner as petty, he's a regular poster on here and has a stellar history of being "above" taking shots at kids or having questionable character...sort of seems petty to me for you to use a terrible situation (closure due to unchecked fraud) involving a bunch of kids to shame folks and suppress conversation about people's suspicions. The man cracked a joke...get off the soap box and lighten up, Francis.

  4. TSSAA rules only allow for a single classification jump. The highest they could play would be 4a. The last time they tried to move many 4a teams went to 5a to avoid them. They had to stay in 3a so they could have any chance at a full schedule. Also, they have between 55-60 players on their roster, not even close to a 6a roster.

  5. Among the public's and not counting Oakland, maybe. If Alcoa beats West decisively then I'd give them second to Oakland. Any time you beat Maryville you're up there.

  6. Please feel free to add to this or make corrections. I may have some scores incorrect, but I tried to verify my findings through 2 different sites. The Wayne County Wildcats and Moore County Raiders have met a total of 38 times. In 1959 the two teams first met on the gridiron but interestingly enough Moore County was then known as Lynchburg. Wayne County won the first ever clash 28-14. After this initial meeting the two teams played 3 times in the 60s. In 1960, Lynchburg took revenge winning 14-6. Later they went on to beat Wayne Co in 63 and 64 by the scores of 12-6 and 27-6. The two teams did not play again until 1971. In 1971 Lynchburg then became known as Moore County High. Moore County won the first meeting under their new name 14-3. The only other meeting in the 70s was a 30-8 victory by Wayne County in 1972. After a huge gap and some region realignments, the two teams squared off again in 1983. Wayne County won 7-0 and the games continued on in the 80s with the following results: 1984 Moore Co 29 Wayne Co 0 1985 Wayne Co 15 Moore Co 0 1986 Wayne Co 13 Moore Co 6 1987 Wayne Co 28 Moore Co 6 1988 Moore Co 48 Wayne Co 0 1989 Moore Co 27 Wayne Co 0 The eighties finished with Moore Co collecting only 3 wins to Wayne County's 4. The nineties were not kind to the Wildcats but as you'll see going forward this rivalry is streaky. In the nineties the Raiders went 7-3 over their rivals but what is more interesting is the region was won by one of these two teams for the entire decade with Moore winning the crown every year except for Wayne Co being the region champ in 1994. Results: 1990 Wayne Co 43 Moore Co 7 1991 Moore Co 20 Wayne Co 6 1992 Moore Co 35 Wayne Co 20 1993 Moore Co 28 Wayne Co 0 1994 Wayne Co 27 Moore Co 7 1995 Moore Co 42 Wayne Co 33 1996 Wayne Co 21 Moore Co 14 1997 Moore Co 7 Wayne Co 0 1998 Moore Co 28 Wayne Co 14 1999 Moore Co 40 Wayne Co 3 The 2000s brought in a change of scenery as the Wildcats decided to dominate the next decade by winning 7 contests in a row. The Raiders won in 2000 by a score of 28 to 13 but then Wayne Co went on their roll. 2001 Wayne Co 7-0 2002 Wayne Co 15-8 2003 Wayne Co 18-2 2004 Wayne Co 28-21 2005 Wayne Co 26-21 2006 Wayne Co 21-14 2007 Wayne Co 40-27 2008 Moore Co 17 Wayne Co 14 After a two year hiatus, the teams began play again in 2011. 2011 Wayne Co 49 Moore Co 14 2012 Moore Co 30 Wayne Co 0 2013 Wayne Co 28 Moore Co 0 2014 Wayne Co 33 Moore Co 7 Starting in 2015 realignment hit again and the series was put on hold. To my knowledge the teams did not meet again until a playoff matchup in 2020. The Raiders dominated the playoff contest 49-14. Starting in 2021 the teams became region opponents again with Moore Co winning last year 26-13. If you are still with me, I say all this to say what an amazing rivalry! I have the teams meeting a total number of 38 times with Moore Co winning 19 times and Wayne Co winning 19 times. It doesn't get anymore evenly matched than that my friends!

  12. Even if Alcoa wanted to move to 5A or 6A they couldn’t per TSSAA. Also, why should Alcoa move to 5A or 6A? They are playing in the classification they belong? Alcoa has normally played up a classification, but honestly 3A as a whole has been tougher than 4A (other than possibly Greeneville). Then you have the argument of would those 4A schools (Greeneville, Elizabethton and others) move to 5A if Alcoa moved up? I would give Greeneville the benefit of the doubt, but Betsy would probably move up. I say that because they moved from 3A to 4A to get away from us. Also, the fact that Greeneville, Betsy and Anderson County had the opportunity to put Alcoa on their schedule for 2 years (last year & this year) and declined the offer says a bunch. Winning never gets old! I can live with the fact that others run from us and we get the best we can get out of classification and win. That’s all you can ask out of a program! Alcoa dresses 66 players. Not sure about your numbers as compared to other programs, so I’ll let it go.

  13. This will be a very interesting game this Thursday Night for dang sure. As for Alcoa beating Maryville I'm not surprised, a heck of a lot of concerning issues there that raise their ugly head every week and it's something that really can't be fixed or at least the biggest one can't. Can't feed the other team the ball twice a game and the past week three times and at least one results in a touchdown in both games and say no problem here unless your just a DA. All I can say to Alcoa is chuck that Maryville win in the trash for right now because it might not be the prize you think it was. I think Alcoa has the best chance Thursday Night plus not going through all those BS'ing calls they went through last year over at Knoxville won't happen this year. Only issue is, will the QB be playing Friday Night or not.

  14. I agree with most posters that Alcoa should win and this will be a very entertaining game. On a sidenote, I'm not sure if a team has beaten both Maryville and Alcoa in the same season but if the stars align and the breaks fall their way West certainly has the talent to pull it off. Who Knows?

  15. Here in East Tennesse i would say Jordan Harris from Alcoa would be the front runner. I don't have a clue to his stat line but he has scored in every phase of the game: Offense rushing and receiving, Defense pick six, and Return game tds. His yardage totals have to be pretty hefty, I believe he went for over 250 total yards and 2 scores in the win over Maryville. In my opinion he will be tough to beat.

  16. There are always excuses. I'm not being mean or a smart #### but there always is. Little injuries, burnout, bad nights sleep, out of shape, illness, weight cut, etc, etc, etc, ad nauseum. The results speak for themselves. This wasn't a required event, they had ample notice, ample training time, and all have plenty of coaches and training partners. You know how wrestling is. If you signed up then come prepared, or don't sign up. With all that said could every one of these matches go different the next time? Absolutely because every kid on that card is stupid good. In the end I love that these kids are chasing competition. I do agree with your other thoughts on time off and I hope these kids take a break from the grind.

  17. Congratulations Tomcats! Last week's victory was the 700th all-time win for Haywood, and Coach Smith's 70th career win while at Germantown and Haywood. Keep up the good work, and let's make this week 701 and 71. A victory this week would also be Coach Smith's 40th win while at Haywood and the 40th for this year's seniors as well. There's a lot of football left to play, so let's keep winning and adding to those numbers. Go Tomcats!

  18. I can agree with everything except defending Southtowner. He's a shady character. MAHS and MASE are about 7 miles apart. How many players on this year's MASE team "transferred" from MAHS? What are the chances of all the transfers and a coach passing over a handful of other Memphis schools along the way and landing at the same spot being a coincidence? How many of these transfers made the move for sports and how many for the strong science and engineering program at Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering?

  20. Wouldn't be the first time. Although they weren’t 3A, there wasn’t a team in the state that could have played with the 1989 team that took Brentwood Academy to the shed. Kingston was a beast that year tho! There are several other teams, but that one comes to mind first!

  21. I love me some Alcoa, BC and SLANT are my dudes, if you haven't met them please do they're genuine cool guys, I will be pulling for Alcoa this game and the rest of the season but you have to be realistic there's a team in Murfreesboro that's king of the block. Here's the difference Alcoa vs West is a big game but if it was West Vs Oakland it wouldn't be treated as such

  22. Misinterpretation on my part for you saying change. I have said he needs to go and will continue to say it. Kids that were told that they couldn’t play certain positions seem to play that position at other schools at a high level. Obviously I won’t mention names that I know of, but will say more than 5 players in the past few years. All of these kids have/had multiple D1 offers. All Region and All state players!

  23. As crazy as it sounds it would probably be closer than you think, because they have some dang good ball players in some positions. I’m really confused as to why they are losing like they are right now. Expected a solid year from that bunch.

  24. Well, Trousdale co had 2 players Friday night against Westmoreland that weren’t even on the team until last week. #71 and #74! Coincidentally the 2 biggest lineman on the team. That’s a fact! It didn’t Help any though! LOL matter of fact me and my son were at the Trousdale East Robertson game and witnessed one of the being recruited. LOL

  27. All part of growing up. It’s tough for a kid like that who has grown up always being the star of every team he’s ever been on, and now he has run into a little bit of adversity. Hopefully he’ll work through it and come out of it not only a better player, but a better person as well.

  32. Give credit where credit is due Elizabethton made big steps against Grainger the other night. Saw alot of improvement on the offensive side of the ball. However it's hard to gage that against a team who barely slipped by Sullivan East and just got throttled the week before by Chuckey Doak. Elizabethton's going to win out the rest of their conference games that's a given the rest of the conference games they play will look alot similar to the Grainger county game outside of possibly Semour. But let's see if there is any production on the offensive side of the ball against two tough teams like AC and Rhea County first before we get ahead of ourselves. Go Cyclone!!!

  34. You sure you want to go with that statement there sir? The media relations director for UC says otherwise in his write up of the game that included team totals and individual stats. According to your official stats, you had ONE non starter get ONE rushing attempt in the entire game. Starters in your backfield accounted for both 4th quarter UC touchdowns and 593 of your 599 total yards of offense. As you dominated T.O.P. during the whole game, including the 4th quarter, if jv players had played " the whole fourth quarter" as you claim, then more than one kid would of had more than one carry. Your statement is factually incorrect. I have on multiple occasions in the last week acknowledged the superiority of UC. It does appear that you have the makings of a very special team. Try some humility along with being more humble in your postings. Arrogance doesn't look good on you and it does reflect badly on the school you support. Ya'll have fine team. There is no reason for you to spread falsehoods, especially when they can be so easily disproven. Good luck to your school during the rest of their season.

  38. the last couple of games i can see the power 5 in him. I see they also are making an effort to target him and he seems to do something with it. I like what i am seeing out of him but think about once they get him, Ben, and Justin going at the same time OMG it will be unstoppable. I know people on here will say Oakland can stop them but Oakland doesn't have the guys to cover them if you get them all working in the same game! #ISAIDWHATISAID

  39. I've seen a lot of really good teams over the years with predictable play calling. But those players had been taught those same predictable plays from pee-wee to varsity. The thing is, when you run your plays to perfection you can't be stopped. You have to build your talent. You can't sit around and wait for a good group of athletes to show up. That's why you see so many teams in this area have one or two good seasons then 5 bad ones. That seems to be the cycle.

  40. I personally think Springfield goes 0-2 in those two games. Henry County will be looking to make sure there’s not a repeat of last years regular season loss and Beech has won 8 in a row against the Jackets. That’s not saying Springfield isn’t good, just that I think these two games don’t go their way.
