  1. This game is what high school football should be.. 2 communities proud of their kids and their school. Should be a nice night and great crowd. The outcome will be decided by which line plays the best. Dare say there will be as much talent as any A or AA game all season. But talent without effort is like Apple Pie without ice cream... just leaves you disappointed.

  3. Totally Agree StewMan! The Wavers are overrated! Aint nobody gonna be happier than me when they go 6A. Then again theyll have more to blame for their loss of tradition then. I tell you though, after that close loss and 3-7 year SC had, they comin out blazin! Dont count em out! SC 55 Wavers 7 Always good to hear your 2 cents GWAVE

  4. That's a real good question. My guess is nothing. I say that because the team could have easily gone 4-6 last year had it not been for the athleticism of Booker at QB. His biggest yardage plays were broken. Heck, he made the OC look good all year bc of his ability to create positive yardage after broken plays. The truth is....if there was going to be a change....it would have to be at OC...heck, the entire O staff needs realignment. There is no excuse for a WR to run the wrong route, give up on a play, etc. We saw that all scrimmages and in the 1st game of the season. The truth is...the OC couldnt do it with several athletes now playing at the collegiate level....how is he going to do it with this squad? Easy....he ain't. The WR coach needs a new assignment. I mean come on?! Wrong routes? Giving up on plays? Oh come on man?? I've seen some really small teams at OR over the years...this is one of the smallest. But I also saw underrated, small and slow Wildcats lay it on hard and win. Coaching....key is good coaching. On the O side of the ball...we aint got it. End of the day, we have what we have. A small team, not a lot of speed but those kids have heart. Both sides of the ball. If I were the HC...I would either take over play calling entirely or make a change. It's long overdue and we've all seen what happens to a HC that doesnt get with the times. It's painfully obvious this OC and staff need fixin. Special teams...aside from the kicker kicking deep on kick offs....horrible. What was going on with the botched snap...and the holder? What on earth was going on there. My two cents....the D will do what they do, keep them in the game....but my gosh.....COME ON....in the least, spread the ball around.....get you playmakers the ball...not the WRs who continue to run the wrong route or flat out give up on a play. Our O line can give the QB just enough time to get the ball out....at least get some WRs out there who are willing to play with heart. I know 15 can catch. Seen him catch time and time again. Why didnt he get a snap? End of the day, the OC, Offensive Staff and general play calling all needin fixed. Aint nothing going to change until a change there is made. I know, its only 1 game....but yall don't need a magic crystal ball to predict the season....and it aint pretty.

  5. Yes u are right a lot had to do with being on the road, hostile environment, first start, freshman, playing for HC. The last half of the year should be looking pretty good.

  7. Oh ok, thought maybe you had some experience training quarterbacks or something. He’s always looking to hone his skills. I’m probably way too biased to really comment on this, but if he had any balls flutter... it was most likely due to his fluttering heart. He’ll let one slip sometimes.. but his mechanics are usually pretty sound. I figure a lot of it had to do with his first start, on the road, in a hostile environment, and a bunch of 6’3” 230 pound dudes trying to kill him. He’s definitely got a lot of work to do, much room for improvement, and nowhere near where he wants to be as a player. He’s his own worst critic, and his Daddy is a close second, but I think he’ll be okay as the season goes. No excuses, he has to get that out of his system and play much better to help his team be successful.. and hopefully he will. It won’t be from lack of effort, because the kid works really hard. We’ll see what happens. Go Big Red.

  9. I read thru posts.. and as expected most are thinking SH Lions run away with this. With a big win last week, & Dresden's woodshed whooping, it just seems logical to think SH will have an easy time of it. BUT.. them spankings can do the trick & bring about big changes in a short time! And with the unknown factor being there with new coach(es), no telling what may happen. That 'ol saying, Any team can beat another team on any given day (or something like that) ain't fairy tale stuff. The guaranteed games are never guaranteed (And now the "realists" & "pragmatists" chime in with their irrefutable stats & logic.. blah, blah). I will, as always, pull for Dresden to surprise everyone with a big W. And my health & life circumstances, at the moment, may keep me from attending any games this year. It's a smack in my mouth, gut shot, & throat punch all rolled into one, but it is what it is. I'll face this like athletes have to- of all ages & sports. Back in my day I played them all & finally settled on boxing. I liked riding the buckboard to practice instead of my horse- ha! But we all have to go one day at a time, and never quit, give in, give out, nor give up, just give it your all. That's why I enjoy sports so much, it's training for real life & real events. Friday night I say: GO LIONS (DRESDEN that is!). YOU CAN DO IT! (btw.. any online radio stations carrying our game?). p.s., As to LC, if they run up score on us, #### for tat man. That always increased my motivation to do better & be better so it'd never happen again. And the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th stringers (who keeps on scoring) want to show out too & earn more playing time. It's all good imho & part of the game. Just don't taunt nor rub another's face in it. That's crossing the line & if coaches see that, better nip it in bud! And if that's the attitude & culture instilled into a team, time for a new coach! ASAP! Don't care who it is. But, that's just the myopic view of this old hick from the sticks. I don't know any better. LIONS ALL THE WAY! WOOO-WHOO!

  10. For the last 3 years SD has been picked as the preseason favorite in region 2-5A by many, and I'll agree they have been more talented. That talent hasn't shown up by the end of the season. Two state championship games and a semifinal later Central has had the upper hand, including beating SD with a freshman 3rd string QB 2 years ago. And I'll be the first to say that they have more talent again this year. In my opinion they have the ability to win the state. But for some reason SD has trouble keeping that talent on the field by the end of the year. Mental toughness is a question. Injuries happen but sometimes you have to play through them. Players that need to come out of the game every other play don't help the team, regardless of how good they are supposed to be. The game at SD near the end of the season should be a battle. Powell looks good! Not sure if the rest of the region can measure up. Other teams in the region will need to improve if they are going to have a chance to beat them. All this being said, I don't know that Central is the #1 team in the state. Don't get me wrong, I'll take it but I think there are 3-4 teams in the Knoxville area that could win the state and a couple in west TN that could make an statement for themselves.

  11. We've got a big, strong back and a smaller back with good vision. The line seemed to do a good job holding their blocks, and didn't get pushed around. the QB didn't throw or run much, but did his job well when he did. That's about as good as I can make it sound BigEd. We played well as a team... we tackled well, covered receivers, contained an offense consisting of an unbelievably good looking back, a tall athletic receiver, and a QB who could sling the ball as well as being very shifty when he ran. Coach Woodmore has the kids in phenomenally good condition, and he had all pre season to prepare for Walnut's offense... if he can game plan every game like the first, we may just be in some games that we have no business being in, talentwise. Not saying we have a bunch of un athletic kids, but we definitely don't have a game changer that you have to account for on every play, on either side of the ball. The concept of playing as a team determines just how good all teams are, but never more than for our program this year.

  12. Btw Gordonsville sucks. From what I saw Friday night gordy didn’t have to stack the box to stop our run game, they did it anyways. In my opinion it’s hard to run real in depth plays when your qb is making his first real start in his career. I don’t think Cousino performed bad but they obviously didn’t even run a lot of basic plays like u said bc every other play seemed to be an RPO to me (if u consider that a basic play Or not I don’t know). Im just not sure if he was making the right reads. But like I said it’s his first start I expect him to get better and better every game. Swann will at least be back by hartsville and I hope he can contribute enough to the line to allow us to compete. If he can’t we might have a tougher year then most, including myself, thought. But We have several weapons that we need to stretch the field with but as of right now the only guys on the offense that have proved themselves is Carey and Cason. I guarantee the others will come but u can’t expect a team full of non experienced guys to come out pounding on all cylinders. I was disappointed with the game as well but Give it time they have the talent, and the coaching. Well see what And who we got to work with Friday but if we don’t fill in some holes and do the little things it might be a hard one to watch.

  20. We have to be able to stretch offenses out and not run the same basic plays routinely to help our line out. It looked like Gordonsville loaded the box and kept stunting from what little video clips I seen. If we are going to win and be what we need to be then we will have to stretch teams out and help our line by not allowing teams to load the box and wait for # 4 to touch the ball over and over!

  24. Ooooooooo we talking QB mechanics??? Most young QBs' bad ball issues come from bad feetwork. So on the flutter balls I would suggest the 14/15 y/o to make sure his feet are in order and he's properly transferring his weight.

  28. Thank you for that. I try to praise him but also keep him humble, and tell him to enjoy the ride instead of worrying about the destination all the time. He’s a very smart, driven, and down to earth kid.. and was watching film with his ice packs Friday night after the game when I walked into his room. I’m more proud of his work ethic and the type of man he’s becoming than I’ll ever be of him as a football player. Hopefully we’ll see some improvement this week in Hendersonville. The road definitely doesn’t get any easier. Good luck to you all as well. GBR

  29. i dont generally get in on these pissin contests if i can help it, but i think i'll give it the best "stream" i can in this one....i think you and D'man both have some valid points. It all depends on how you look at things vs how things are perceived. In the historical realm, sure, DB has dominated our Devils. But you mention in a round about way " what have you done for me lately" and i dont really think last thursday and friday qualifies as a true " lately "....lately to me is the last few years...let's say just for numbers sakes, the last 3 years. (hehehe) Greeneville has clearly been heads and tails above DB "lately", seeing as last year we absolutely destroyed you. two years ago, different story. Yall took it to us in the first half and we had to rally to get the win. this offseason, for whatever reason, DB tapped out on us. Honestly, just looking at both teams most recent games and the head to head meaningless scrimmage, that MIGHT be a good thing for greeneville. But ultimately, greatness is in most eyes judged by trophies and i think we can all agree that that one is a no contest between the two. Greeneville is a turnover away from being 5 for 5 in state title game, but they're not. they're 4 for 5, and for me, that looks waaaay better than 0 for life. One thing is a fact here ....BOTH schools can be very very proud of what they have accomplished in their history. DB...more over wins than us....GHS...more state titles. So, all that said, i think we can both be dam(n) proud...and i AM, even with our most recent setback.

  31. I am really hoping that since last week was most of the starters from Cornersville's first start (and full game) that they will knock off the rust of them not playing on a weekly basis and it will give them that sense of what a full game is all about. They have the talent to continue to do good things. I just hope that they realize that they have this potential and it lights a fire underneath them so they can go out and be competitive on that weekly basis. It will kind of continue what was started a few years ago when Randolph took over the Bulldog program.

  36. I’m in agreement with us not winning a bunch of games this year.i didn’t realize he was so short! I think he has a lot to prove! He’s been rated good and goes to a bunch of top camps! He made horrible reads and decisions week 1. He may need time to grow a little. 0 speed this year! Johnson need more balls thrown I mean fast!! He’s a lock at corner Preston 22 who replaced 15 needs to get with the program or replaced! It’s that simple I rather try Kendall at corner back! Athlete y’all why not?! I think minor did what he could only giving up what did, but 1000% hva qb missed naked guys all night

  37. For the first time since the early 2000's I don't have a child at GCHS, so all I can offer is travel and restaurant advice. Leave early beat the Nashville traffic come down to exit 14, try Nicks Grill or Sarges steak house. Better yet come on into town and you can find a number of excellent places to eat. I have no idea what GC has other than reading the box score from last week. I do know they will be well prepared and in good shape. Good luck to all. GO CATS!!!

  39. I’ll let you in on a little fact. No matter who Huntingdon schedules outside of the district, I can’t make that team competitive. The 4 teams that Huntingdon plays is usually competitive in their classes.

  40. Name the tactics lol if you can and I will check back in to see what they are. I’m kinda curious myself to see what they are lol. I don’t think it the ones from loudon that’s upset I think its the bobcats, Coalfield and SP. The two or three comment is completely wrong. I played in the early 90’s and 6-7 kids on my team and my brothers team were transfers that came from WB and other places so there goes that theory.

  43. I wasn’t going to post this week because last week left an awful dirty taste in my mouth. Regardless of the outcome this week, the one thing I’m looking for is the effort to pick WAY up. If you’re gonna be a good team, you must know how to fight back against adversity. Last week, GB quit. To win this game, we have got to come out ready to play and excel in the basics of the game: blocking and tackling and do it with intensity. There’s no such things as a nice football player. We had too many nice football players this past Friday.

  44. Weak play calling has cost Huntingdon 2 trips to the semifinals. I will never be convinced otherwise. This group of boys do not deserve for it to happen for a 3rd time.

  46. Here are the returning medalists from last year. I went ahead and updated the grade they will be in next season. It's hard to pick at the lighter weights because those guys move around so much. Half the time we don't even know what weight they'll be at until region individuals. That being said, the only wrestlers I'd feel confident picking to win are Coffey at 220, Sacharczyk at 182, and Pietarila at 160.
