  11. He’s definitely a goat. He can play QB. Running back. Wide receiver line backer. Probably just about anywhere else

  14. Wish we hadn’t missed the one PAT. The clock would be running and I’d get home sooner

  15. That would be nice to have him back in time for the playoffs. In the meantime maybe some of the other guys will see some good solid minutes and build a little depth there at RB.

  18. Bummer. That’s the one thing that has been hampering Ensworth so far this season. Injuries. Hayden plays extremely tough and is in on just about every play. They are happy to have him there.

  19. It would be almost impossible to name all of the Tomcat players who have won college scholarships, but to answer your question...Casey Avent (class of 1991) played at Arkansas. An interesting side note...Haywood High Athletic Director Tim Seymour (class of 1995), played at the University of Memphis.

  26. Mav, I don't need this game to tell what OR can do against Powell. I already know, not much. Ha ha

  27. Christian Denton. He is a student at MTSU. Doing well, on track to graduate next year.

  28. I think it's important that Clinton comes out and scores early - punch Powell in the mouth and see how they respond. Having not played in a couple of weeks, I wonder where Clinton is mentally/emotionally, especially after what happened against OR.

  31. Kage Williams. Would be the best player in Blount County right now on both sides of the ball if he stayed. We almost got him back when COVID hit and NC delayed football, but he stayed in Robbinsville.

  33. I'm hearing Covid has hit some of Briarcrest's better players. Assumptions always get me in trouble BUT I assume this is why they have been swapped with Ravenwood. Brentwood plays Ravenwood now in the first game this afternoon at 4:30. Per MaxPrep, 13 of the top 15 teams in the state will be at this tournament. This also includes highly ranked teams from AL and KY. I can't think of a tournament that has had so many top teams in it. Whoever wins should hold their head high.

  35. If you have the game close at the half you will win. Gotta survive the tempo and keep it close until then though.

  38. The NBA is an entertainment platform based on basketball. You threw out a lot of offensive stats, but one of my previous points was that it should be LOVED by defensive coaches. From an offensive POV, I believe there's potential for an increase in fundamentals (inc. cutting hard, reading the defense, decision making), preparation for late game situations, etc. but not necessarily an increase in FG%, just more possessions. With a shot clock, teams will need to be better prepared to break full court pressure and in turn pressure the defense with a quality primary and secondary break before the defense has an opportunity to set up their 1/2 court defense. To be able to do so offensively, fundamentals (and conditioning) will be important to a teams success. As a coach, I like growth and change and although we disagree I appreciate your thoughts nonetheless.

  39. Nobody wants to watch bad teams play basketball. Bad teams are simply that, bad teams. If a coach is allowing bad shooters to continually shoot bad shots, I'd venture to say that (a) the team is really bad &/or (b) there are no clearly defined roles within the team. IMO (b) is a major coaching problem. I've always believed that my worst shooters should lead the team in FG%. Have you participated (coached or watched) HS games with a shot clock? We used a shot clock in WA and when I was coaching in Hawaii we used a shot clock at our annual holiday tournament. In both instances it was well received by the fans, administrations, clock workers, refs, coaches and most important; the players.

  41. 1971 Lexington team with 6'5" Larry Fry held 6'11" David Vaughn Jr to 8 points in the championship game but losing 50 to 56 while Fry scored 15 per the TSSAA archives. Vaughn had scored 45 points in the 1st round victory over Melrose. Fry went on to be 3 yr starter at Mississippi State averaging 13.8 pts and 8.1 reb over 78 games. Vaughn had been commited to Memphis State where he would join the duo from the 1969 Melrose team, Larry Finch and Ronnie Robinson. Vaughn did a late switch to sign with the overnight success Oral Roberts University but he did marry Finch's sister. Memphis State then acquired the services of junior college player Larry Kenon. David Vaughn III did end up playing for his uncle HBC Larry Finch at Memphis. Fry became a high school principal at Grenada, Ms.

  42. Peabody is on a 40+ win streak. They are also defending State Champs (well, actually back-to-back-to-back State Champs, all in a higher classification). They have a returning Mr Football along with all the other skilled positions. They beat one of the best 2A teams in the State with a 5 Star QB. They beat a solid 4A team in Milan that was 3A runner-up last year. Both of which would beat the brakes off Watertown and Wayne County, respectfully. I'm not by a mile saying Fayetteville isn't legit, but downplaying Peabody like City should absolutely be ahead of them is moronic.

  43. I remember SG 4 life from last year. Must be a miserable life, if all you got to do is set around and throw shade at kids. High school is definitely not pure as it once was. But it’s still the purist form of the game we got left. Think we should just enjoy it. Your Hornets are looking good this year by the way!
