  1. Upperman Basketball In their biggest, most important game of the year, the Community of Meigs County took up donations from their crowd. They sent us home with over $2,000. They also put together gift baskets for our three players who lost their homes. We are completely speechless. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Meigs County, we will NEVER forget what you did for us tonight. Your kindness, selflessness, and compassion means more to us than you will ever know. #BeeStrong

  6. With 3 out of 5 of Westview’s starters having been there 2-3 years before and playing quality minutes and then freshman Harrison playin well above her freshman years, I feel good about their chances. Covington the other night was an aggressive battle test for them and they pulled through it. I think that game gave them confidence that they can take into the state tournament

  7. Tori Rutherford is their best player... I wouldn't say they have a true "big" but they do have a kid with decent size who can knock down the 3.... Westview should win by 10-15...

  9. Bet! How much you want? You’ll see when they play. I’m sure she is a great player and it sounds like y’all have brought in a good one! Where she get recruited I mean where did she move in from?

  11. Keep thinking that. I had Summertown right there with Clarkrange and they knocked them off. Summertown was legit.

  18. Tullahoma didn’t quit & made a good comeback in the 4th quarter after trailing by 8-12 since early in 2nd quarter & by 15 early in 4th quarter. They are a good team. I thought the game was pretty fairly called, except for the technical on Reuter which helped get a 7 point lead down to 2 in the 4th.

  19. Not putting Alcoa down my friend. I would love to go watch them play more often than I do but not against Scratch Ankle and Cornfield County. I actually know more parents of the players from Alcoa personally than I do Maryville so you can bet I want to see good things for them. Me and you differ on the fairness of having players living out of zone and there not being a more fair way to be situated in an enrollment based classification that does not work all the time. There should be a multiplier rule in this situation just like there was against private schools when they all played together. Football is a business and putting butts in the stands are the name of the game Your thinking is like one of Those Bernie Sanders Socialist, if we don't make enough money off the Pigeon Forge game to pay the light bill then somebody will pay for it. Move up to 5A and play Oak Ridge, Knox Central and Powell and have enough money at the end of the year not to have to worry how your going to send the Girls softball team or the Baseball team to the state without having to beg for money in the end.

  23. Look at Coacht's strength of schedule last season for Alcoa, it was rated higher than 90% of the 6A teams. Look at Sonny's site. Alcoa's power rating based on schedule was in the top 5%. Sounds like your recruiter is not very good. With multiple D1 players on Alcoa's team recruiter's are already hot on the trail! Don't confuse Sam desire to play in a more pass oriented system close to his long time QB coach as an issue. Blankenship was and is flying under the radar, where Cox, Grey, etc. have interest and shown as 3 stars recruits of 247 and Rivals. That can happen at any school. Iam sure when recruiters come this spring and/or start watching film, they would pick up on his talent! Those are the facts. Believe it or keep putting Alcoa down....typical of you ways.

  24. Imagine making your daughters shoot free throws for hours til they cry. Its one of the 3 biggest aspects of the game. YOU WILL MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS! You have to be a savage to be the best. Making 16 out of 16 shows that the Tribe's girls have been well coached and groomed for this kind of success. They deserve to be in the glass house. Hopefully, we can follow suit next year.

  25. Stone didn't play their best game tonight, but played well enough to beat an average Blackman team. If this game has been played at SM, it would have been Stone by 20+. However, Stone would beat Blackman 9 out of 10 times regardless of where they played this year. And, since you brought it up, for the record, I'll tell you what is down this year... (District 7AAA) & (Region 4AAA). They haven't been down like this in about 10 years. Everybody knew all year long that Bradley Co & Stone Mem were both going to be at the State Tournament this year. Region 3AAA was just much better than Region 4AAA this year.

  31. No sir, you did not miss anything. Yet, another example of a coward that can go on the internet and talk trash about a fine group of young men that put together a great season by not even giving them a chance to compete with the cardinals... classless, shameless, clown. According to him we need to pool our money together so we be a private school. Whatever the heck that stupid statement meant... Shame on you. What kind of grown man would spit trash about kids? Really? Get lost. Apparently , I am not the only one that feels that way. I would beg him to come meet some of these kids in person. I bet he would change his language about them... Done with this conversation. I hope joker thinks about his words, and finds that his words are intentionally nasty to a great group of kids that have done nothing, but overachieve all season long.

  32. First to admit I didn’t look up their record before making the statement. I relied on the news articles both print and TV around the uproar when the coach was fired a few years back when I moved back to town. Those reports specified that the teams were .500 or below for a number of years and that no offers (full scholarship) were being obtained. Cane Ridge- kids want to go there for the coach and exposure.....and their kids are getting offers (P5).

  34. As a long time reader and 1st time poster, I just have to say there are some clueless people on this thread that have zero understanding of what they speak and it clearly shows in their non stop incompetent posts. What does it matter if a public or private has which wrestlers? The cream will always rise to the top and the best want to wrestle the best. Most if not all the top tier kids in the state and southeast have wrestled each other since they were beginners. If a kid succeeds at a public, then great for them. If a kid succeeds at a private, then great for them as well. Local Kids that grow up here may have loyalty to a coach or club and want to go local or for whatever reason don’t want the private or maybe can’t afford the tuitions there. But if you wanna stop crying and focus on the wrestling, put all the champs and an at large and let the 4 have a RR to determine the individual State Champ. But for the love of TN wrestling, shut up about what you think you know and wrestle! If little Johnny can’t win it in individual (forget the team title for the moment) then he doesn’t deserve it anyway. End of story. Peace

  35. I wanted to say...I don't like the 7 divisions either. It may make sense for some sports, but they don't do it in GA. for lacrosse......so why not use those divisions for wrestling. Then it would be 1A-5A and 6A-7A. I helped run the state tournament here for about 10 years. The reason for the 16 man brackets was to shorten the length of the tournament and reduce cost of places like the Gwinnett Arena. So, now we have sectionals ahead of the state tournament. So you go region, section, state.....top 8 from each section to state. And to keep focus on this thread........I also had a nephew that was a state champ at Baylor. I'm guessing had he not gone to Baylor, he was probably zoned for Soddy Daisy. Odd how Corday was at Buford last year??......where my youngest was....but she was a manager.

  36. You speak a lot about being around to see all things TN wrestling, but somehow don’t recall the Red Raider wrestling club winning the kids state consistently during Mike Sutherland’s time? At the same time you fail to acknowledge the talent that trained in that room. The last time I heard someone ask Mike how many highschool state champs came out of the club he replied “I’m not sure.” That’s how many there have been. The thing about kids clubs at Baylor and McCallie is that they actually help the rest of the schools in Chattanooga as much if not more than they do their own programs. Wanna know why? Because Baylor and Mccallie ,News Flash, don’t have elementary schools and not every kid in those clubs goes on to attend the respective school due to several reasons. The reason Baylor and Mccallie dominate Chattanooga wrestling is because their administration prioritizes the sport. There was a time when the administration at Soddy cared about wrestling and combining that with years of hard work by some great coaches, they were able to compete just as Cleveland and Bradley have been able to. If you wanna be great, build a continuous culture over decades and reap the benefits. So cry all you want about private this, advantage that. No one really cares, work harder.

  37. If I cared anything about grammar I wouldn’t be on a wrestling board at all. Considering you have a pro wrestling pic as your profile you probably aren’t very smart to begin with good grammar or not!

  38. Tell me how many of those there was because I would bet you they didn't split it because of what you are saying! So to back that up please bring out the facts because again that's not at all what I heard from some coaches on the reason for the split for all college divisions and I can go back and look up all the champs and it's littered with wrestlers from Oklahoma, Okie State, Iowa and what not and it has grown exceedingly even more the past few years. I mean if you think UTC can recruit even close to the same caliber wrestler that Penn State or Iowa or Ohio State can I am not sure that you are all there. There's a much bigger difference between the private schools compared to big and large school. One which can actually house their students, pay their coaching staffs handsomely (or why do you think Yost jumps from Cleveland to McCallie?) they have as much room in some of their athletic centers compared to some schools have in their entire building(I trained in the SAC so I promise I understand what it means to a kid walking into that beautiful building compared to walking into the Soddy Daisy wrestling arena which is probably older than you are.) oh and also let me know how many wrestlers the kids club for both McCallie and Baylor have in them because I have seen you as well as a lot of supposedly knowledgeable people on here State that youth wrestling is the lifeblood for a school to be competitive and in my 25 plus years in wrestling in TN as well as North Georgia I haven't seen a ton of youth kids developed through a youth program for one of those private schools. Now I do with Father Ryan and to a point now CBHS, but seems like to me Baylor and McCallie wait until the kids are developed and go out and pick them up when the hard work for years has been put through.

  39. I am dating myself but back not to long ago the NAIA, NCAA D2 & NCAA D3 divisions had individuals that participated in the NCAA D1 Tournament. It was discontinued due to the fact that several D2 & NAIA wrestlers won national championships and made the D1 coaches & schools look bad. Just like anything in life you can run, duck, dodge and juke but you cannot escape the fact that iron sharpens iron. The question has been ask many times before why there needs to be multiple state champions crowned in an INDIVIDUAL SPORT? What happens when the D1 kids and the D2 kids have to compete for both jobs and college acceptance against one another? Don't say that it is different because it is the exact same thing. Look I know that the rules will never be changed back because we are now a soft society that avoids competing against each other. I am of the generation that at 8 years old you had to "TRYOUT" for the local Little League baseball team. There were kids every year that were cut because they were not deemed to be good enough to play Little League baseball. Yes, the coaches tried to teach fundamentals but they also wanted to WIN and that's not a bad thing. The problem with that is that at some point everyone is told they are not good enough for whatever reason and as educators & parents we must prepare kids for the fact there is always someone better. By having divisions all we have done is water down the competition for everyone and we are not teaching those valuable lessons.

  41. Woodland has an enrollment of 1575 or about so right around where Cleveland has, so yes they would be a large school in TN, it’s just because GA has some schools that have over 3k students is why they are not in the highest classification while Collins Hill is. Also it seems in GA the power switches every few years on who the best is depending I am guessing on coaching. CH back before you ever came along in late 90’s ran roughshod over people even into the 2000’s. Buford took a turn and some others took a turn ever since. Unlike with Bradley and Cleveland pretty much taking the reigns in TN with a Soddy thrown in for good measure(I think since 1998 only two teams from outside Chattanooga area has won a AAA or when only 2 split a non private school team title and that was Clarksville in 2000 and Franklin in 05). Also if you don’t think Privates don’t have an unfair advantage I don’t know what to tell you. If they didn’t why is your son there at McCallie and why is your best friends son going to Blair? Both private schools and one in which the school recruited an athlete from Over 700 miles away! In my best ESPN voiceover C’mon Man!

  42. Woodland I think be a 50/50 match with Baylor and they are a public school and not even in largest division in GA so all these people on here complaining about the unfair advantage the private’s have need to give it a rest
