  1. Don’t worry. Doubt y’all make it back next year

  2. I'll be calling this game tomorrow night on 93.9 FM and have a ton of respect for both of these Coaching staffs. Some of you folks saying that Oakland's staff will "out coach" Whitehaven don't know those guys. We're talking about two extremely talented teams and two excellent staff's. This game will come down to who makes the fewest mistakes, PERIOD! This will be the first time all season Oakland has walked on the field and didn't have more talent than the team on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Whitehaven has a ton of next level talent, just like Oakland has. Penalties and Turnovers will decide this game! Coaching and talent will not. Who is better prepared? That will decide this one. You're dealing with 15-18 year old kids and you never know week to week what your gonna get. For those of you saying Whitehaven will get outcoached: Please listen to this interview I had with Rodney Saulsberry back in October and let me know if you still fill that way. Coach Harman has been with Coach Saulsberry since High School. Those guys know football! I call the staff assessment even! Here is the interview I had with Coach Saulsberry. His interview is at the 50 minute mark of this show if you'd like to skip ahead: Rodney Saulsberry on The Friday Main Event

  3. Wish my Jackets were there tomorrow, but congrats to the two teams that are. I don’t think Haywood knows what they are about to face. You can watch film all day long but seeing Greeneville in person is different. This year’s Greeneville team is way better then the one that beat Springfield last year. This Greeneville team may be the best in the state regardless of classification. Greeneville’s offense will be the most balanced that the Tomcats have faced this season. I think Haywood has a chance to keep it close longer than most, but Greeneville will just keep coming. I think the Devils’ defense will contain the run enough to force Haywood to throw more than they want. I also think that since this is this group of seniors last game, that Greeneville will keep their foot on the gas for the majority of the game. I think the Devils win 42-14.

  4. Sounds like a lot of people base their opinions of how good a player is on stats and whether they’ve been getting recognized. Let me tell you this, nowadays many of these 4-5 stars that are being rated aren’t better than some 2 stars. So you can throw around East-West All-Star game and Mr. Football contender but those don’t mean a thing. I already mentioned that they are good players but stop throwing out individual recognition to prove that they are better than other players. Because I’ll tell you this, Whitwell will come out Saturday and have the better athletes on the field. And btw, they aren’t the best players in 1A. You’ll see who one of the best players in 1A on Saturday. I’m done commenting on whose players are better because better teams still lose too. It’s who comes out and performs the best. Not who the better player is.

  5. Good post. Coach Ryan is a good coach. He knows the game inside-out. He might as well coach every aspect of the game from defense to offense to special teams. He just knows the game. But, not to take anything away from him, he did have very high caliber players during his coaching tenure. He’s coached some very good players. Not just because I played for him either. But regardless he is a good coach. And yes we have been to state the past 3 years but that’s the difference between us GB fans. We really expect to be good. Years past, they were playing to get past the 3rd round. They weren’t playing to go win it all. That’s what GB expects now. Put the best players on the field in the right position, coach the right way, and give everything you have and go win a gold ball. If that’s not everyone’s mentality, then you have a losing mentality. We just expect more. With the caliber players we have, we have the right to be upset that we don’t have another shot at a gold ball. But that’s how it goes. You have to go earn it. And we didn’t earn it this past Friday.

  6. His name is Tyler Hunter. He is Dr. Hunter's youngest son. (Dr. Hunter is the head principal at Whitehaven) Tyler has been playing on varsity since he was a freshman. As a freshman he was a 5'-10", 215 lb. wrecking ball of a fullback. He's played NG, DT, LS, OLB, MLB, DE, FB, and TE. He wears #5. He still plays all of those positions, it just depends on what the DC needs. He's been the DC's 'swiss army knife' for 4 years now. He's obviously smart enough to know all of those positions and he's one tough hombre'. He's got about 7 offers to MTSU types of schools. He will be a coaches joy wherever he goes, He's been a scholar athlete for a while now.

  11. yea that was a killer for us...gotta get that ball man. Turnovers can change a game real fast. You guys scored quickly after our turnovers. I loved watching your defensive ends play...fast and physical. Greeneville has a beast defensive end number 55 i think. Lots of size and speed on the field tomorrow

  12. Just a math thought. HC is giving up 17.8 points per game (very good) over 14 games. Greeneville is scoring at 50.6 points per game. So we are going to hold the Devils with a two time Mr. FB at QB, 2 D1 wide commits, a 3rd wide committed to UT as a long snapper to 20 pnts. On the other hand you are going to score almost 7 points over your season average 35.7 points (strong) against a D that is giving up 7.4 points a game. Makes sense to me your prediction.

  14. This game was decided long ago, Greeneville wins big. This Greene Devil team is the REAL DEAL best believe. Haywood isn’t a bad team by any means, but they like everyone else are about to find out that the 4a State Title game was won a long time ago, basically when the season kicked off. I’ll be keeping an eye on this game, while my Bobcats are practicing...

  16. trousdale by 3!!!! seen this team scrap out to many wins in the cold weather to doubt them now. they seem to like the fight and I imagine that’s exactly what they’ll bring to cookeville. if Peabody beats em, they’ll have to beat em all 4 quarters. i’ll Have to see that to believe it.

  17. Well said my friend. I’m looking forward to see Convington and compare them with us. They surprised me last year in the championship. Good luck to both teams and hope both teams play their best games of the season.

  19. There's the problem! "The players on the field didn't do what it took to win", "… I know what all is put in on a daily basis from the coaches and players...", and " …if you have the mentality that most of these GB players and coaches have, you'll be a winner in the end". All three quotes take only GB's input into consideration, but the outcome of the game was decided between two teams, not just the 'kees. Whitwell's kids wanted this just as much (probably more), their coaches prepared just as diligently, and both believed in each others (coaches and players) ability to get it done, just as GB did. Ryan believed in his team to get those first downs, and I'm sure that the kids believed that they would too, they weren't stopped because of a "bad" decision to go for them, but because Whitwell stopped them.

  21. I just want to make it known after reflecting on this season as I have predominately followed Peabody throughout the course of the fall, I have read many doubters on this Golden Tide team. I can recall many folks on Coach T use the phrase “Peabody posters keep beating their chest” throughout several threads & that this Peabody team plays a weak schedule, are overrated, & not as good as their record shows. I have yet to see any of these posters that once made these statements come forth & admit they were wrong about this team. To all of the Trenton Peabody faithful, you guys have one more shot to prove everyone wrong. You guys are going to face a storied program in Trousdale County. They haven’t won 10 state championships for no reason. They know how to win & how to do it on the big stage. I’m pulling for Peabody as this is my Alma mater though I no longer live close to the area. Making it this far is already a feat within itself. Good luck to both teams & may this game be played injury free & that all of the glory be to God. Good luck guys. Peabody 35 Trousdale Co 28

  27. Safe Travels everyone! Going to be exciting tomorrow! As I have said many times this year - THIS GREENEVILLE TEAM IS NOT FINISHED!! BIG GREENE WILL LEAVE NO DOUBT & NOT STOP until Championship mission is completed in Cookeville! HEY GREENE! HEY GREENE! I say skinning a tomcat makes the Cookeville turf grow, skinning a tomcat makes the Cookeville turf grow! What makes the Cookeville turf grow; a skinned tomcat!! 1,2,3,4 here we go Big Greene!

  28. The back end has the two best players on the team (possibly in 1A) playing safeties.

  29. They might play good but you can look at the players on the field and tell who is more athletic. That was my point.

  30. Coach Rankin wants to know if you like apples???

  31. That’s where you are wrong. Not throwing shade or anything at the west. But the talent level has dropped off the past 2 years. The competition is absolutely terrible across the state of Tennessee. I understand that you held Huntingdon to 7 points. But with the offense they run, if you figure out how to stop it once, you’ll stop it from there on out. You force them to do what they aren’t used to. But it seemed as if the coach was too stubborn to change his play calling and it cost them. I know Cornersville’s defense is good. But athletic ability goes to Whitwell. Nobody will convince me otherwise. C’ville has a good front 7 but they’re back end is not great. They match up pretty well but I still stay Whitwell. Too much speed, strength, and physicality. I will say, if C’ville can block the front line pretty good, they’ll have lanes to run in. Could possibly break a few long runs. But to win, you have to stop them too.

  32. A lot of that was coaching, there was only about 8-12 plays where I couldn’t tell where it was going. If I can tell the guy getting paid to stop offense better be able to lol

  34. Me and sportman are gonna drone train our db's. They'll have to cover them from one endzone to the other and back. If you can cover a drone you can cover a WR. Just like if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.

  35. 2009: Jim Nunley Jim Nunley During a successful 40-year football coaching career, Jim Nunley was known for always avoiding publicity. But the linemen he coached never shied away from contact with opponents on the gridiron. Nunley earned a reputation as one of the best high school football line coaches in Tennessee. His linemen were noted for sound fundamentals, outstanding technique, and hard hitting. His ability to develop line players helped Trenton Peabody compete and win against larger schools during his 32 years as a coach with the Golden Tide. A humble man who avoided self glorification, Nunley said he found rewards by watching his players and teams achieve success through hard work. The son of the late Jack and Emma Nunley of Hartsville, TN, Nunley starred at guard, tackle, and fullback at Trousdale County. The first football game he saw was one in which he played. He was All-Conference two years and won the Phil Dickens Football Award. He played 2 years at Indiana University and then transferred to UTM, where he played linebacker, guard, and offensive-defensive tackle, and won All-Conference honors. He earned a B.S. in Secondary Education in 1964, and later a Masters in Administration. His first teaching and assistant coaching job was at Milan High in 1964. In 1965, he moved back to Hartsville, and for two years was the head junior high football coach, assistant varsity football coach, and head boys basketball coach. In 1967, he became assistant football and head track coach at Humboldt. In 1972, he accepted an offer from Peabody coach, Walter Kilzer, to be Peabody's offensive-defensive line coach. He remained at Peabody until his retirement in 2004, teaching Social Studies and Drivers Ed, and serving as assistant principal. He was an assistant coach on 2 state runner-up football teams at Humboldt (1969) and Peabody (1991), and coached his two sons, Steve and Stan. Coach Nunley is married to Judy Ross Nunley, a retire guidance counselor at Peabody. They have two sons, Steve and Stan. Jim is a deacon and member of First Baptist Church, in Trenton.

  38. The reason why it makes NO SENSE FOR 2,4,6 A to be playing on Thursday is because the PRIVATES didn't play LAST WEEK. The 2,4 and 6 A participants have to have a short week to appease these richy rich folks. It's bogus. I had to get that off my chest. Rotating maybe 1 or 2private with a 1A or 2A school (due to the fact that both west and east participants are usually less than 3 hours away from Cookeville with exception of maybe a Union City or Fairley, if and when they become state title contenders). The biggest Baddest teams (6A) have a short week to play a title game! That's bs

  42. I mean I understand your point but GB definitely wins if the field goals were kicked. But it’s over with and Whitwell deserved to win because they made the plays when they needed to. But you can’t say that the decision to not kick the ball wasn’t a game changing decision. But your point is well received and totally understood.
