  1. Very impressed with Powell QB. His accuracy on the long ball was outstanding and the last TD throw was tremendous. The freshman WR # 9 had a tough night for Powell but my goodness that guy has some bigtime talent- can definitely see why high major programs are already all over him. Oak Ridge is much better than a 5-4 record indicates. They have really improved over the course of the year. They can play with and beat anybody in 5A on a given night, IMO.

  5. I'm not trying to argue that one is harder than the other. Like I said earlier, play-by-play can be a tough gig. I've spent enough time in the booth at both the high school and college level to know that a little bit of preparation goes a LONG way. But my goodness, when you listen to many of these DCM broadcasts, it feels like someone simply showed up to the stadium 5 minutes before kickoff, with zero knowledge of the teams on the field, and attempted to do the play-by-play. Maybe I'm just spoiled by HTV, but after working the booth with him for the years that we did, he provided a great example of how you prepare for a broadcast, at any level.

  6. I wish David Clary (OR play by play guy) could do it. None of 'em are as good as ole Dave.

  8. I think Greenback is the perfect model for how to make this work. Kids flocking there and Loudon county has to restrict students from other counties, including Blount county which actually has kids with Greenback addresses inside the blount county line, from attending. If Loudon County removes that restriction about 10-12 more football players from south Blount would be transferring to GB every year. that's about an additional 40 FB players on a 1A football team

  14. Well, we also had a TD called back, and early in the game Heyward was wide open but Gibbons threw the ball about 20 yards OOB. Strange throw by Mitchell, but that play had a really good chance of being a TD or at the least a huge gain, so we had a couple plays go against us as well. But yeah, they dropped at least 2 TD’s, but as good as that freshman is, he’s still a freshman, so that’s what you get when you put a freshman in positions like that. As talented as he is, those drops were drops a freshman kid makes. Either way, Powell was clearly the better team. I’m most impressed with how well we ran the ball against them. There’s a lot of positives to take away from tonight from the standpoint of OR.

  21. Brought him up before but I’m doing it again, Copper Basin’s Chase Mickens has 959 receiving yards on the year over 1,000 all purpose, he is also one of our leading tacklers on defense. I would also consider Little Grabowski he has 1749 passing yards along with 15 touchdown passes he also has 314 rushing yards with 4 rushing touchdowns.

  23. dumbest post ever. this is so uncreative. @TCRadio i honestly wouldnt waste your time arguing with this rock. Not sure why i'm even taking the time to respond myself. Sounds like he is setting himself up for when Lewis Co. wipes them next week. Laying the foundation for excuses. I personally would love to see the Rockets on the opposite sideline come Cookeville (if TC is blessed with the opportunity) or even W2 next year. I personally know Coach Stephenson and he and his family are great people and want to see him succeed.

  27. I'd rather they had moved the games up. Especially if a homecoming game, senior night or a region game. Just makes better sense. Sure high school football is for Friday nights. But high school football has now outgrown just 1 night a week.

  28. For sure. I grew up listening to David Clary call Oak Ridge games. He’s an icon of Oak Ridge sports radio, imo. Not the same when he isn’t calling the game. Haven’t had the pleasure of hearing Mr. Mayes, but we all know HTV is top notch as well.

  29. Haven't met many that are. Austin Price is just as bad. To his credit, it's a pretty nice production, but I'm old school and prefer to let the game speak for itself

  33. I’ve yet to see a person on this board pick Beech to win, so far it’s all Gallatin. Beech lost to MJ in their jamboree and MJ totally shut down Beech’s run game. Gallatin thumped Hendersonville, Beech should have lost to HHS who, again, totally shut down their run game. The Gallatin boys can keep talking up them being the underdog, but I think an objective odds maker would have Gallatin as the clear favorite.

  34. Probably be better to let AC come down to EH, get rained out, go back home and comeback Saturday. Yeah, that would be better.

  35. Last I heard, last night, it’s still Friday. It probably should be moved to tonight. It’s going to pour tomorrow and the field will be a mess.

  36. Greenback seems to be doing pretty well. Three state championship appearances in 2015, 2016 and 2017. State championship in football in 2017 and state championship in baseball last year. Some greenback addressed are actually in Blount County. Why are they not complaining about losing kids to Alcoa or Maryville? Really interested to hear an answer. Its about building community ties to a school that kids want to be a part of and eventually send their own children to the same school.

  37. People need to know the facts. Reserved seating has been offered ALL SEASON -not just this game.

  38. Just wanted to clarify the statement above. I know govolsknox knows what I meant by "SOB" but others might think that means something else. Coach Mark Bradley (Rusty's Dad) has been affectionately known for years as "Sweet Old Bradley" thus the SOB reference. SweetOldBradley is actually his Twitter handle, as well. Several teams around Knoxville have opted to move their games to Thursday night due to the rain that's scheduled to arrive tomorrow night. I don't see this being a lightning event that would delay a ballgame, so no real need to move the games, IMO. I think the schools that moved their games are soft and I hope they all go into 4 OT's and keep the fans and kids at the school until after midnight. That will be fun getting up in the morning for work/school

  41. The Lord does work in mysterious ways. I said earlier that I was going to have to broadcast a game Friday from the stands sitting out in the rain storm. I just got a phone call from one of our football dads saying that another one was going to take care of installing us a 10 by 10 portable Press Box to broadcast from on Friday. They will take care of installation and taking it down. I love the school I broadcast for.

  42. Correct. 3rd round which is very good for 1-9 team last year. Much props and respect for the turnaround

  43. Fayetteville has a nice looking team but a December team they're not. They make too many mistakes throughout their games I've seen them play. And a lack of a passing game will hurt them down the road. Their QB has been hobbled most of the year and yet they seem to be more comfortable and better suited running out of the wildcat package. Just my opinion and I'm sure Varo's mileage will vary.

  44. I don't know if this is a done deal or not....I just knew that it had been in the works and I was asking if it was a done deal now. I think it would be great to have a smaller school on both ends of the county.

  45. Folks have better things to do than spend their money to sit in the rain. I'd say the all mighty dollar has as much to do with it as anything. Better crowd, mo money.

  46. Rutgerson is a phenomenal athlete for GB! He hasn’t stood out necessarily in one position this season, but that is not because of lack of ability. They play Rutgerson all over the field and he has shown to be dangerous at all of them! He is great out of the backfield, he can pull in tough catches and make big plays when they spread him out, and he has proven that he is more than capable to take snaps behind center. He is also lethal when returning kicks. Not to mention that he is a lockdown DB! Willis and Carnes are great ball players and I do not mean to take anything away from them, but Rutgerson has not received near the recognition that he deserves for his performances this season. The GB squad is more than solid and should make their way deep into the playoffs, if not bring home a golden ball!

  48. Great talent and player. But, if Carnes didn't transfer to Greenback would he have these numbers? I don't think so. That's why I have Carnes winning it because he is so important to Greenback.

  49. We just aren’t very good right now. Young, injuries, transfers have killed us. Our coaches have done a very good job holding this team together. Very proud of this group.
