  1. I took some like that, but I don’t like to publish pics like that. I agree he’s tough. But I don’t think they were physically prepared for us. Especially Swafford - he spent most of the night either running for his life or trying to catch runners.

  2. QB is going to be fine. Coach is the coach for a reason. I think QB called his own number and was only injured because of a cheap shot (surprise surprise ) by a Bradley defender. Several of their players should have been ejected last night. And # 51 for BC just about tangled with the wrong one there late. Lol 22 will hurt ya

  3. Going to be a ball game. Irish better hope they don’t go into this week overly confident. Like everyone else is saying from Waverly, if Waverly shows up to play like we know they can, the Irish will be very disappointed at the end of the night. If the Waverly team that showed up to McEwen shows up in Erin, Houston Co gets the win. Only thing I’m hoping for is that our boys are focused and understand what’s up for grabs.

  4. Huntland has never "competed" every year until Reed was hired. They were a perennial doormat that rarely made playoffs. Reed is the only landmark on that programs timeline that constitutes a change in culture. Anyone that understands football in that county, knows his coaching & presence has had a monumental shift in that downtrodden program.

  5. Bootlegger like nation said i watched all i could on Coalfield and brother they just didnt look the part in ANY of those games.BUT it is a testimony to your kids and coaching to get them ready for a game of this ones magnitude. My hat goes off to the kids on the field because their hearts were left there too!Penalties or not your boys played big time ball last night and in all fairness probably the most physical team we have played as far as im concerned.Last year you all were like a limp handshake big turn around this year.If you all dont play that way against OS then shame on you guys!LOL.We need everyones best every week and you all could not have played better.Good luck we shall meet again! Good job to our boys for fighting thru a hostile crowd and overcoming some adversity on the field that we caused ourselves.SHUTUP and get back to the huddle its about the team NOT YOU!That will cost us BIG in a playoff game.#1 you played your arse off and im proud to have you in OnB.#23 as always you come up big with blocks runs or WHATEVER we ask.#20 will knock your socks off and fold your laundry for you.Line play needs to stay consistent every week,oh and if you dont know I HATE BYE WEEKS and glad its gone!

  6. I don’t think it was a player, I think they were talking about a young man that has supported the tigers for years but moved away. A special needs young man that loved to be on the sidelines. I think

  7. It's a Region game, so it's important, but D-B should be heavily favored in this one. Mo West comes in with only one win over crosstown Mo East. Will the Tribe be looking ahead to Science Hill? I doubt this coaching staff allows that. I think the Tribe pitch another shutout and break 50 in the process. I'll go D-B 55, Mo West 0.

  10. I think I hollared at you, but I wasn't sure it was you. I think you introduced yourself a couple of years ago in the pressbox, but I've met so many folks over there, I get mixed up. I meant to give you and Pegleg a hat.

  18. Nothing negative. Are their schedules weak yes. Did greeneville punt last year no. Just because I deal in facts and the truth do not make me a bad person. Look back at all my post I say who I think will win and never say anything about about any kid. The whole state rankings are a joke. If someone from jc press votes who have they seen out side this area and the same for a memphis sports writer. Just saying noone knows. LIke DB used to be ranked number 1 every year and lose 1st round of playoffs

  19. I saw a white cap official kick a fumbled ball away one time due to the players charging towards him for the recovery. All due to the fact that he was too fat to get out of the way.

  20. Gonna be a great game with alot on the line. I predict a shoot out. Couldn't tell you who is the better team but Hampton will be tough at home with so much on the line.

  21. Yes I can agree with all those points you made. Well after a long week of having to deal with the off the field incidents of last Thursday nights event caused by a few Giles players, I’m mentally worn out from dealing with that and glad our game is over and doesn’t affect our playoff chances at all. So thanks for clearing the air! Go Tigers!

  22. I just call them like I see them. Sometimes right sometimes wrong. I've been waiting for someone to dig up that post I made last year where I said this would be a 2 or 3 win season. I guess while I was feasting on Big Pals and sleeping late on weekends they were studying game film and hitting the weight room pretty heavy. Farragut players had the hands on the hips midway through the third quarter last night. DB didn't seem to get tired. They don't panic when the other team scores or hits a big play and they don't hide under a rock in the second half the way they have done in recent years. That's just really good coaching.

  23. They are always needing refrees. It's not that easy. But, there are alot of cheating refrees. I'm talking from experience. I am the world's worst at getting on the refs, but I have been a ref. So try putting yourself in their position. I'm not trying to be a smart$$$ either. Just giving you something to think about.

  24. I know it sounds wonky.... BUT there is an explanation. I asked the same question because we have had this happen in the past. The region schedules are pre made for 2 years. When the coaches show up to pull a number out of the hat they have to play whatever that schedule says. Since the 2 year schedule restarted this year we just drew a bad straw having to travel all the way to Covington again.....

  25. The only thing that irked me was the decision to go for it instead of kick the field goal. I'm not criticizing the coaches work ethic, teaching, or anything else. I know this is a good group of coaches. Letting good teams hang around will get you beat. Especially when the opposing coach knows your schemes inside and out. The head coach cant control flag happy officials and when that starts to happen, along with facing a talented defense, points are at a premium and you have to take what you can get. With that being said, I dont think Marshall County would have had the success that they have had witout this coaching staff.

  26. Lots of places do it. Trousdale County started doing it this year. Kids can pay and come from out of county. Its kind of like an arms race between countries. You may not want to do it or be doing it but if your opponent is doing it then they have to in order to keep up.

  27. That’s fair, but Ronto didn’t have the whole team gunning fer him! Swafford’s strength, speed & escapability was a thing of beauty. Swafford ran down every single SP RB when in his area. The kid is the best from an opposing team in OP’s skillet head memory in a long time.

  29. Old Pirate wants to congratulate the Pirates on successfully defending The Speedway Pit! Also congrats to the other Orange & black team, Meigs County Tigers. Meigs is a very good team that plays a tough in your face style of football. Swafford was the best player on the field & the only marked man playing. That said, Swafford showed & proved why he is moving on to the next level upon graduation. The Navel Academy should have picked up several new fans last night. The Pirates however showed great improvement and displayed their ability to answer the bell & force feed a larger physical opponent on long scoring drives. All this praise does not indicate or suggest the Pirates have come close to reaching their full potential. Enjoy the great win, then work to fine tune & strengthen both weaknesses & strengths.

  31. Disappointing showing by USJ. DA just flat out wanted this one more and controlled the game from the opening kickoff. Still think USJ is in the mix for the championship, but they've got some stuff to work on for sure!

  32. Congrats on a big win last night. Glad to see the sleepy Giant has finally woken up in the Tri-Cities area. Really sick and tired of hearing about the band up there where football was once the king. Hopefully this new coach can get all that turned around where men are men and play football and goats play the piccolo to get into the ballgame free.

  33. For what it's worth, it's just West and East now. No middle designation, which I welcomed as it often made for unwieldy explanations (East/Middle vs. West) during broadcasts. I think it may be closer than some think between the two regions. MBA looked off-kilter with their early losses, but those happened against 6-1 Brentwood High (in OT), 7-0 Pearl Cohn, and 7-0 Briarcrest. MBA beating Ensworth and BA was impressive, and MBA's defense is perhaps a bit underrated. McCallie has looked dominant and has already clinched a playoff berth, and I'll see them in person this upcoming Friday night 10/18. I've called a couple of games that featured DeAngelo Hardy and BJ Harris at McCallie, so I already know how talented they are; Harris was a breakout star as a freshman in 2017. Baylor is also very strong with that great line, and their game in two weeks against MBA should be quite interesting. Can the aforementioned stout Big Red defense stop Baylor RB Elijah Howard? Of course, the game itself means nothing for region ranking aside from overall win tiebreaker considerations. But MBA is in a unique spot to provide comparisons, with three II-AAA East Region teams on its schedule to go with the entire West Region. With the smaller number of region games (at least for former E/M schools) and the higher stakes with only eight playoff spots, the tiebreakers could get very interesting. There is now a strong incentive for teams to book as easy of a non-region schedule as possible. Increased odds now of a three-way tie with each school 1-1 against the other two. There are massive playoff implications for BA vs. Ensworth on 10/25. Both teams have a bye upcoming, which means extra time to prepare for the game. BA QB Wade Williams returned from injury last night in the Eagles' loss to MBA, and it's perfect timing with the bye to get Williams and WR Preston Sagan (also back from injury) and the rest on the same page ahead of the Ensworth game. If BA loses to Ensworth, the four-time defending state champs will be in serious danger of outright missing the playoffs. And this is an Eagles team that only lost to McCallie by five. Keshawn Lawrence of Ensworth had two punt returns for a touchdown in the game I called last Friday. As great as he is at safety, Lawrence is a special player when he has the ball in his hands. And then there is Knoxville Catholic, with a huge game at Baylor this upcoming Friday. Have to think KC has momentum after the win over BA on national TV, but the Red Raiders are the real deal so it won't be easy. If Catholic can beat Baylor on the road, I will be VERY impressed. Briarcrest is going to be a tough out in the West with that really strong run defense. Remember that the Saints had a 17-point fourth quarter lead on MBA. But CBHS, to their credit, played Briarcrest close and they have a great RB in Al Wooten. MUS is lurking there at 6-1 overall, with only a three-point loss to MBA working against them. I'm not sure how MUS' rushing game would fare vs. Briarcrest. But the Owls have to be careful not to overlook JP2, as the Knights could end up at 2-3 with a head-to-head tiebreaker against MUS. In short: if MUS wins out, they could get the West #1 seed. But if they lose to JP2 and Briarcrest, they risk possibly not even making the playoffs. If nothing else, this configuration change for 2019 has added a level of drama to the end of the regular season that has been lacking in recent years. II-AAA East McCallie 3-0 (7-0) remaining: FRHS, Ensworth Baylor 2-1 (6-1) remaining: KC, BA Ensworth 2-1 (6-2) remaining: BA, McCallie Knox Catholic 1-2 (5-2) remaining: Baylor, FRHS Brentwood Acad. 1-2 (5-3) remaining: Ensworth, Baylor FRHS 0-3 (1-6) remaining: McCallie, KC II-AAA West Briarcrest 4-0 (7-0) remaining: MUS MBA 3-1 (5-3) remaining: CBHS MUS 2-1 (6-1) remaining: JP2, Briarcrest CBHS 1-2 (4-3) remaining: St.B, MBA JP2 0-3 (4-3) remaining: MUS, St.B St.B 0-3 (2-5) remaining: CBHS, JP2

  37. Playing 4 qtrs both ways and getting hit all night absolutely took its toll on him. That’s not a knock at the young man either, anyone playing that much is going to get beat on. He had some good runs but for the most part I believe SP defense kept him in check tonight! Good game for both teams!

  38. I've learned from the past it's best to not make a prediction when playing Maryville. They don't need any extra motivation.

  41. The turnovers were a wash. DB had some big turnovers also and about 100 yrds in penalties. Take away that long pass play for a TD by Farragut (busted coverage) and this was a domination. Farragut is a good team, big line, very good QB and they have a couple of really good receivers. I think this was the first real test for DB and they aced it. Both running backs over 100yrds. apiece for the second time this year. Take away that one pass play and the DB secondary looked pretty darn good against a really good quarterback. With three starting offensive linemen lost for the year I just don't see any drop off in protection or opening holes for the backs to run through. They must of drawn straws to decide starters. All this, but the biggest change I see in this years team and teams of the past is with the coaching staff. They are killing it. Every single one of them. Anything can happen but so far from what I've seen this is the best coaching staff I have seen at DB in my lifetime. Period. To come from what they have had in the recent past to where they're at now is really amazing. Hayworth has built a line that looks to be one of the best in 6A. To lose three starters in the offensive line and see no drop off is just really good coaching. Thacker and who ever else is involved in play calling and reading defense is just the best I have seen here. If they can clean up those silly mistakes they might make a run for it.

  42. DB fumbled 4 times , 2 of witch they lost ! Just heard DB had 3 players out on O line - they went far down the bench to get some players starting ! ... with that said it all comes down to Hayworth and what he has done with these lineman - they believe and no matter the size they can play !

  45. Not going to argue keeping or dismissing him at all, and we may just have to agree to disagree, which is fine. I wouldn’t put him back out there until there was absolutely no chance of him doing something stupid like that. And I mean no chance. Zero chance. And maybe he never proves that. And never plays another down. Who knows? But I’ll argue until my last breath on whether or not football is a rehabilitation opportunity. Is it a privilege that everyone deserves? Absolutely not. But how many young men have gone through the Greenback program and benefited as men because of it? Lessons like adversity, dealing with loss, success, even down to more basic stuff. How to act in public on road games. How to manage a busy schedule. Dealing with stress. The list goes on. You can’t tell me the only lesson in football is how to count by 7’s.
