  1. I believe this stems from the admin making the decisions have no clue about sports and want it takes to build a successful program. The schools that have that admin work hard to keep their coaches.

  4. If I were looking for a head coach, I'd be trying to get the best coaches off the Alcoa and West staffs. I'm a bit surprised we haven't seen more of that.

  6. I don't think he's a West Ridge Fan. They're not that stupid. Sounds more like a DB student with an ax to grind. Former player or parent of former player. Defiantly has the hot head toward coach Poore.

  9. I get it.....scheduling is tough and usually takes a few years. I've been here since 1996 and only seen Camden County at traditional state. The way things go down here, teams don't seem to string decades of greatness. So you could schedule and they not be good anymore.

  10. i didn’t say they were scared lol i said that dual streak is a big case of stat padding. which it is by definition. 95%+ of those are wins are against lesser competition. that’s stat padding. i also said that they don’t venture out to bigger dual tournaments elsewhere, which they don’t, and that they are content staying home and wrestling instate teams mostly..which based on my last 2 points, they are. i told no lies.

  12. We're only talking duals. And they have been in tournaments with Camden and if my memory is still intact they finished behind Camden.

  13. And nobody thinks these head coaches and assistants don't get phone calls from AD's wanting to know if they are interested in coming to their schools? Happens all the time.

  14. Do you still hate they always say that? Its almost like you wanted a reason to get mad at Cleveland.

  15. I guess in that they are right, but I don't see dual team championships in Texas, so no way to win both if they don't have it. Guess maybe that is where they get the first in nation to do so!

  16. This is an example of when life is about more than just winning and losing. I get your point, some kids and parents do need to care more about the outcome of the game (to a certain extent). But every circumstance is different. Here's a not-quite-so-hypothetical example: What if "real dad" was finally able to get off work on Fridays and come to his son's football game? It's the only game he's been able to attend in his son's career, and is going to be the only one he's ever at. Thats a special moment for that kid and his father. 10 years after the fact, that picture of the two of them on the field together after the game is a heck of a lot more important than who won the game that night.

  17. I hope it's nothing serious. We know all too well how devastating a key injury can be. Starting Friday, we have a tough slate of games and I'm praying we get through injury free

  19. If I’m not mistaken, I think Campbell County school system pays the head football coach a 12 month salary as a teacher, in addition they pool the coaching supplement into 1 lump sum, and the head coach can dictate how much assistants make. Not sure what the lump sum would be for Pemberton but I’m sure he got the money he wanted. I think it would be safe to say he is probably making 10,000 more than he did at Rhea if not more. CC could not have made a better hire, there is a couple of assistants still there that I think Pemberton will keep. Not sure if he is bringing anyone would him from Rhea, but I would say he has the option of bringing at least 1 with him. They will find a teaching position for that person within the school. His biggest challenge will to be to get better on defense. They were really bad on that side of the ball this year. I think he will keep most of his players once he gets his culture established. In addition, the numbers were way down this year for a 5A program, maybe mid 40,s. Hopefully, he can get more kids out for football. The two feeder schools, one is decent and the other is really bad in football.

  20. I agree on that. If they are too lazy to seed 8 teams and put a big focus on last years results. Then a true second match is needed.

  21. Well, it has been a long time. And if we listen to you, it may not get any better for us this weekend. So, do you have an answer to the question or not--or do you just want to take the opportunity to be a punk?

  22. Pretty clear that Danny is on borrowed time. Took him two months to hire a coach and got turned down about six times. As for Big Kev, is he still gonna sell light fixtures and just moonlight as a coach? Or does he plan on actually working in the building? Seems like it would be tough to run a program from a job site

  23. Criteria for seeding is medaling the previous year and winning regionals. If you do both of that then you will find a seed. Head to head isnt a criteria in duals state or individual state, for boys OR girls.

  24. Hey oridgecat, won’t this be a region game for the Ridge? Wildcats better be ready for that “tackle eligible” tight end pass. Lol

  26. Well what are we talking about? This next season or perhaps 3 seasons from now. Normally I'd agree with everything you said but there's 2 things I can't get over. 1. Imo Westviews program is in a better place now than when ty got into high school and 2. I don't normally cite jr high records or performances but when a small town team like Westview is going toe to toe with teams like MBA, it's kinda hard to ignore. Do I think Westview will beat Alcoa in the next 4 years? Negative. But in this day and age talent seems to find a way to come together whether it's the pros or high school. I wouldn't doubt if there's kids who will come there just to be on the team and in film with graham. I honestly could see them making it to Chattanooga or wherever it'll be by the time little Simpson is a senior.

  28. Fair enough. At 7-8 yards a play seems the ball control would be the defense. Looking forward to the change at CC.

  31. If Westview stays in 3A it wont happen, it will be exactly like it was this past year, they will struggle with the top teams (Covington and Dyersburg maybe even Ripley) and beat up on the bottom teams (McNairy, Bolivar, Liberty, Scotts Hill). Then come playoff time IF they are able to push past Covington or Dyersburg a second time, they will have a team like East Nashville waiting for them, then Alcoa. Westview with Ty Simpson (Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior year) in 3A finished 6th, 4th, and 4th in their region. When they dropped to 2A is when they went 14-1 and won the Gold Ball. Not saying Westview will not be good, but I just don't see them doing much in 3A, the only chance they will have will be dropping to 2A again and getting a favorable Region as they did in 2021.

  32. Under Pemberton, Rhea has never thrown very much because that just doesn’t fit his coaching philosophy. I believe they threw the ball more the years before Pemberton’s son was QB - when they had Dotson at QB and Noel Patterson at receiver. As EagleVolSteeler stated they lined up in more of an old school “straight” T formation and ran 2 tight ends for a while. Zach Pemberton did carry the ball quiet a bit because they ran a lot of triple option out of that formation. the last couple of years Pemberton did move to some I formation backfield sets because they featured the very talented Ethan Davis at running back, but Pemberton is primarily an old school double wing T guy.

  33. Yea, there must be something personal behind it. When Journal Entry worked at Bearden, Parrott's success must have rubbed him the wrong way. Considering the football team's lack of success during those years. Taking the hate to an anonymous message board shows great individual character.

  38. B, you're being a little humble IMO. I think you got em by 21 last time. Granted that was without Demorest in Summit's lineup, but y'alls lineup is better now too with the movement of kids in different weight classes. This movement also gives you a little more flexibility to bump as well. You got 106 and 113 locked down with previous state champs, ability to put a stud at 126 or 132, 2 studs covering any 3 of 157, 165 or 175, ability to put a state champ at 190 or 215, a hammer HWT, very solid kids (including a returning state placer and another likely soon to be) throughout the lineup and a handful of backups that would start at most teams in the state. IMO, If Summit keeps it to 15-18 (excluding forfeits after outcome decided), they got to start at the weight class they hoped, they got choice where they needed/wanted and Pete's guys wrestled their butts off.

  39. Did not see that hire coming. And I doubt I am the only person who feels that way. Time will tell if this was the correct move or an over correction after the last coach.

  40. It was a good game. 2nd half it seemed like SG played a little too soft and let their feet off the gas. A lot of pushing and grabbing jerseys in the 2nd half. Both teams could’ve played smarter on defense. SG made some silly fouls there at the end, including a flagrant that pushed the game out of reach. I don’t think it should have been called a flagrant, but I don’t think it would’ve matter??? DB got the momentum and coach Poor’s 4th qtr coaching helped the team keep it and get the victory. SG was definitely the better team on the court tonight, but credit to the DB players and coaches for keeping their feet on the gas. As this DB team keeps maturing, they’re gonna be tough, especially next season. SG is good and I think they have a legitimate shot. Looking forward to seeing how they do come bracket time.

  42. Just got home from DB at South Greene, SG matched up well with DB and outshot and out rebounded the Indians for the entire first half. Second half was different, as DB shot and rebounded better and took the game away from a surprised South Greene team. DB players of note were #20 post and #2, who looks like he spends lots of time in the weight room. Any chance he's on the football team at DB? It was a game worth watching, Congrats to Dobyns Bennett for never quitting. There was a sparse crowd from Kingsport, which didn't seem to have any effect on the Indians, who won a game in a very difficult place to play a road game.

  43. I want to point out a few things. 1. Enough folks complained about the ridiculousness of a 16 man bracket being wrestled over the course of 3 days and now we have a 2 day tournament again. I do think if the T$$AA received enough complaints they would adjust the criteria next year. I mean they already changed it from last year with you now have to not only have placed last year to be seeded but you now also have to win your region and section duals. I’m sure that changed because folks complained about section winners being seeded that didn’t win their region duals. So I’m optimistic they would listen if enough people voiced their dissatisfaction. 2. Can you imagine if the football playoffs were seeded based off how you far you made it in the playoffs the prior year? And then they just did a random draw for any teams that didn’t make the semi finals or something like that? Just listen to how ludicrous that sounds and picture the uproar. Well that’s what they’ve done with the state duals and we’re just saying, “it is what it is.” 3. Honest question regarding the cow poop palace. How did the private schools get the T$$AA to approve them having their individual tournament at MBA and the public schools get left with having to continue to compete in a cold expo park on a dirt floor where some cow sh¡+ a few days prior to rolling the mats out? I’m sure these kids and coaches would rather wrestle at a nice public school with a big arena than this poop palace even if the T$$AA isn’t willing to secure somewhere nice for them like McKenzie, Thompson Boling, Bridgestone, Memorial at Vandy, MTSU, FedEx Forum, etc.

  45. With the enrollment over 2,400 students, this should never happen. 2400 STUDENTS. The ole saying, if you get beat 20 the other team has more talent. If you keep getting beat by a few points, it's coaching.
