  1. There are many small complexities to every game, but to simplify it, USJ missed the long ball by a foot or two when going over the top on multiple occasions (that they usually hit), and the DA back popped too many long runs. There was a huge hole on the 1'st play for him to run through... looked (in person) like USJ had players in position to make the play on the rest of the big gains, just couldn't finish after first contact. Most glaring deficiency that sealed the Bruins' fate... two possessions inside the Bears' 10, and zero points. Bottom line is, DA's line controlled the game, and the team that does that almost never loses. Just got home and started the video of the game, but I doubt that I see much from the video that changes my way of thinking. Congrats to both teams. It was a hard fought game for the championship, and I thought that both teams played well... I also thought that the ref's called a pretty decent game, the better team today won, and everyone finished standing up... can't ask for more than that.

  5. Good luck to both Teams should be a Great Game. Elizabethton has a really good team . I think they being undefeated and playing the schedule they have will help them. But they haven't been away from the friendly confines in a long time. It being their first time going could be a disadvantage I just don't know. You never know how a team will react to the brightest of lights when it shines on them. I know the first time Greeneville went they made more mistakes in that game than in the other 4 Trip's combined. But elizabethton is coached very well and they have played with poise all year long. So I don't think it will bother them. Springfield is a very solid football team. They will play hard and they do have a good Defense. So really anything could happen. LoL I'm not going to pretend I know who will win this game. But I do see Elizabethton as the favorite going in. Which I'm sure Springfield could care less about lol. I will tell elizabethton one thing if you guy's go down early and tailgate or anything you will enjoy the company of the Springfield Fans they were great people when we went and played them a couple year's ago. Good luck to Both Teams hoping for a great injury Free Game

  10. That’s the plan. The Firebirds go first, lay the groundwork for us and get that gold ball tomorrow and then we will follow suit Saturday.

I’m sure there will be some more stuff we won’t agree on, but y’all are some pretty cool cats. You idgits have made me go spend $10.95 to watch this mess tomorrow, so make it worth it. Don’t let the boys sneak in the donkeys shine tonight. I’m ALL IN on y’all bringing home a gold ball. Good luck from your biggest Mustang fan.

  14. For all the recruiting rumors, which is silly to even bring up when the kids have been in the system since middle school. Parents have the right to put their kids in good situations or environments. Three different coaches in two years is not a stable environment for players. Not saying anything bad about the people or kids but that’s tough on a program. When the county has a coach that jumps from one school to another and coaches at three different schools in one year, shows no stability. I also have a nephew at one of those county schools and from the sounds of his stories, the kids don’t enjoy playing for their coach. This is why my kids go to Elizabethton. They weren’t recruited but it was an easy answer to my question, who do I want coaching my kids? So stop blaming Elizabethton for your losses and start looking in the mirror! I will say I have heard of some great teachers in the county and some good coaches, like the HV coach Jarrett, I’ve heard good things about him. I’m still happy with the choice we made. With that said, I think both teams are phenomenal and it will be a close game! Cyclones 27 Springfield 21

  16. Court is adjourned. I rewatched the GB vs SP game. Willis was held a lot. SP equally as guilty as GB on pass interference. Sorry for suggesting that the game was unfairly officiated. It was indeed poorly officiated, but not unfair to either team.

  18. Winning nothing a couple years is fine if it builds a team up to win it all in the long run. See these Seniors coming up next year have been to the State game, 4th round, and are very hungry to get back to the Ship. Your team just cant seem to get past the 3rd round and will never experience it as long as TC is in the same classification! I know it's a hard thing to understand, but one day you will.

  19. Don't use Forrest's record to try to add credibility to your weak schedule. Only team in the final top 11 you faced all year (Fairley) took you to the limit and beyond. For the 5th time, your coaches scheduled the 45th easiest schedule out of 47 2A teams listed in the end of season SOS poll. 4 playoff games managed to pull it up to 37th toughest. Meigs played the 11th toughest according to the same SOS poll. In 2 seasons your best wins are to that Fairley team and a Trousdale County team with a QB with one arm and one leg. Both games came down to the final play. You have built an amazing two year record on a regular season filled with cupcakes.

  20. Mostly smack talk because of the oneida jab from earlier and just wanting to mix it up really. Like I said earlier didn't know much about LC until the last day or so. I will say the QB is a load and the RB is very quick. Honestly, and this is not meant to be a slight at all, it would be close. I don't know exactly where each would rank but you, upperman and meigs run virtually the same offense. All 3 have an extremely talented running QB and a very quick back. All 3 QB'S are fast and big. From what I've saw all 3 can pass but that nod would have to go to the Upperman QB, he's a good one. Really you 3 are nearly exact copies of each other. GB is a totally different style in their passing game. They're just hard to defend. So even IF it were 4th it's really like a 3 or 4 way tie honestly. I know you don't know me but if you knew how much I thought of those other offenses then you'd realize that's actually a compliment. I think we have played 3 or 4 outstanding offenses this season, I think yours would be right there in the mix with them. No smack talk, just being honest there.

  23. I am keeping an eye on Maryville for sure. Still, watching Bearden even though their record right now is so so. The Bulldogs have played some tough teams. If you read 5StarPrep you would have seen Farragut is rolling right now...boys and girls. I sure hope Oak Ridge faces Maryville so you can see junior guard, wing, post and sells popcorn at the half Jeremy Miller play. He has worked himself into being a very good high school player. Jeremy versus your super guard would be so much fun to watch. Good luck Saturday against Ravenwood and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years.

  26. Above is all I can find for a person to view. I really don't see anything wrong with a Facebook live stream by an individual. TSSAA doesn't get "gate money" from the Blue Cross bowl but they do receive a set amount from the winning bidder.

  29. I'm biased as well T69. I still think we are the best team but I haven't seen Lake County this year. I'm thinking of going just to try and get this last game out of my system. Still hurts.

  30. I couldn't tell if he trapped the ball or not. Awfully close. I had the advantage of viewing replays on TV a few times. From the angles they showed I just couldn't tell. Definitely a defensive battle in the 2nd half.

  31. Congrats Central and good luck. Oak Ridge had a great chance 2018. You were up 3 TDs and started calling pass plays. Guys like Higgins and Middleton should have brought you at least to championship game you would think. I say this as a casual observer not knowing anything about the inside of your program. What also know is you guys put a darn good product in the field more times than not. Getting there takes luck. Region 3 and Region 4 except for the last couple years we're pretty tough to get through. The top four teams in Region 3 could compete for the number one spot in any other region in 5A. So that region is kind of like the SEC in college football. But that's not to discredit what central has done the last couple of years because they had to play that region to get there. Oh yeah go LSU

  33. I think everybody is off on their perspective. Winning a region championship is an accomplishment to be proud of. On the flip side, to say going to the semifinals is the equivalent of "winning nothing" is totally wrong as well. Personally, I would rather play in a game that gives you the opportunity to go to the state championship. Neither negates the value of the other to me. I just think it's a moot argument to compare the two.

  34. Carter County Mom’s two cents: My kids attended the County Schools. Please understand, some of the elementary schools are tiny and go all the way through eighth grade. There is no opportunity for the middle school experience. Band consisted of practicing in whatever room they could find a space. It was a Tough decision for a lot of us parents after fifth grade to switch to Elizabethton City or stay in county schools. Mine stayed in the county and yes they had the most amazing teachers who loved them, guided them and almost two decades later still are there for their former students as friends and mentors. However, you can’t blame a child who wants a different experience, one like most other students in this country take for granted. Examples: 1. Going to a real middle school that actually has a marching band instead of waiting three more years to march in a band with 20 students versus 200 plus in the city high school. 2. Not Being in an elementary school environment until you start ninth grade. 3. So many opportunities academically and athletically as well as vocational training they just can’t provide in the county. Unaka won the State Championship in Basketball while my kids were students there, so yes, the County is competitive in sports. It is a different dynamic in our area, I bet most Carter County parents have had this conversation with kids about whether to switch or not, especially every time one of their friends announced they were “moving to the city schools”. Most transitioned after fifth grade. No one can “blame” these kids for their decision to want to be a part of the Cyclone family. The Cyclone football team is blessed with their coaching staff and to have a city that absolutely loves them. Drive through town on a Friday night game night and it is apparent that stadium (and all who fill it) is the heartbeat of Elizabethton. I expect to see most of the population of Elizabethton in Cookeville supporting this amazingly talented team as well as the entire Witten family. Coach Witten, Jason and their grandfather, Coach Rider, that entire family and coaching staff, inspire these players to be their best and to be the kind of men this world needs more of. Those boys won’t just be carrying a Football down the field but decades of hopes and dreams for our entire community. Good luck and God Bless you all. Thanks for this thrilling adventure! Safe travels for Cyclones, Jackets and fans!

  35. You could have stayed within a few scores of MHS last year and we could have this year but year in and year out they would probably win 49-7 against the smaller schools. A Cornersville, Forrest, MHS jamboree could be a big gate to rotate.

  36. I'm taking Greenback by 2 touchdowns. I have thought all year SP could beat LC or Huntingdon by that. I don't think the qb for LC throws it great. I think GB is similar but has GREAT skill players. They have 4 guys in their team who could start for 6A teams. That's impressive. Looking for a good game.

  37. I think it’s cool too but it leaves no room for added titles, not guaranteeing anything but central will probably win another in our lifetime hopefully. So I’d like to see them put banners up for everyone to see. just to show off this success especially recently.

  39. I dont't believe in looking up to any school. You're beat before you start if you do that. I understand how you feel. If my school was 8-42 alltime against a school I think I would try to be a little more like them.

  40. Who's going to stop us???? The team we beat in the 3rd round? I'll take second right now in the Region for next year just to come over to Kitty Country and send you home for the 3rd straight year. Like I said, some live for the Region Championship while others strive for a higher Goal. That may explain the trophy case.

  41. Enrollment numbers will be gathered in Sept 2020. We will know by mid Oct where we all will land. And by the first week of November the new region alignments will be set. I counted 395 football playing schools. Divide those by 6 classes and it's 49.16 per class. I look for 49 schools in 2A-6A. That will leave 50 for 1A. That's usually how it's done unless there's a couple with the same enrollment numbers that would uneven one class or the other. But usually it's 1A that gets the extra school. After the schools have been classified then the largest enrollment school in each class (1A-5A) shall set the cut off numbers for any new schools that may opt in during the 4 year classification period. Any school playing up will not affect the cutoff numbers for each class. So yeah, this coming year will decide your fate for the next 4 years.

  42. Yep, there is exactly what I was talking about. All towns in the state should look up to Huntingdon.

  43. Teams out West would better be served playing in 4A than 3A at the present time. If a team like Springfield can make it to Cookeville. There are at least 5 3A teams from the West this year that would have beaten Springfield.

  44. I know this is a little off topic but I was going over some rosters and the first one I looked at was, of course, Covington. I must say, I got a little excited seeing a lot of familiar names returning next year and thinking a return to Cookeville may be in order. Then I looked at Pearl Cohn's roster and saw the amount of underclassman on that roster, not to mention, the main numbers (17, 7, 3) will all be returning. Now, I'm thinking that this is a State Championship type squad who will probably be favored next year. UNTIL I took a peak at Alcoa's roster and saw the UNGODLY amount of juniors and key players (Carroll, Saaunkey, ect) that will be returning next year and came to the conclusion that the rest of 3A might as well give them next year's Gold ball this weekend and take a year off...lol. Needless to say, 3A will be even tougher next year than this year and based off the play of all these young players on each of these teams should be really exciting and could probably challenge any squad from any division. Good luck to PC and Alcoa this Friday.....and, dang, I'm looking forward to the 2020 season already.

  45. I must agree Big Ed. The D1 boards are much more entertaining. I've also gained many friends who I met over the years on the D1 boards. I will admit and I'm happy to say that I have also met one very good friend on the D2 boards from Columbia Academy. Thank you Mr. Tom. While I don't think any of them are on the D2 board , I also gained several friends and much respect for the people who run the Press Box's at both Clarksville Academy and Fayette Academy. Big Ed is also correct in the fact that there are not nearly as many thin skin folks over on the D1 side of things. Anyhow, I will now get back on topic. My thoughts are that this game will either be won or lost by the play of the usj offensive line. It is no secret that the quarterbacks for usj are not very mobile. If DA is able to put pressure on the usj QB, it could be a long afternoon for the Bruins. If this game comes down to place kicking and punting, I give the strong edge to usj. It is my opinion that by the time he graduates, the kicker for usj should merit serious consideration as the Mr football kicker of the year. I think he is that talented. I will not make a prediction of a winner in this game. I will say that I wish travel mercies for players and fans of both teams and I pray for an injury free game.
