  3. Stunning news. Even with knowing someone is fighting, it's still a very difficult blow when they actually succumb. Real sorry for those who knew him. He mostly was frustrated with me and my smart mouth but it was all in good fun. He was very passionate about the game and all the communities. The world needs more like him, but God made the call. We will suffer, but he will not anymore.

  4. Very sad news to hear. I did have the pleasure of meeting Mike at a few games and he was a true fan of the game. Both him and Lee put in many hours of their time for our enjoyment. He will be truly missed and may God be with his family at this time. We have lost a great member of our T family.

  5. Oh and let’s not bother the family too much right now. It’s too soon. His wife and him had an amazing friendship and relationship, and enjoyed each other’s company all the time. Be respectful. Thanks

  7. The true measure of a man isn’t in terms of monetary means or worldly processions, but rather the impression he leaves on others. Like many of you on here, I didn’t know Mike personally, but watched his shows and met him at a ball game once and had a great conversation. He and Lee have done as much, if not more, than anyone to promote high school football across our great state in the past few years. The impression he left on so many of us speaks volumes for the man that Mike was. Thank you for all you’ve done Mike and rest easy brother.

  8. This news traveled extremely fast. Oh my Heavenly Father! We don’t always understand your purpose, and even then it doesn’t make losing someone any easier. I just pray for comfort for his family and all those who knew him. There’s not too many folks you meet that when you see them you already start smiling. He just had that feel-good aura about him. Lee Teat @FridayMainEvent I am so sorry for the loss. I know you were as close to Mike as any of us. Love ya brother! It’s a sad day for sure…sad day.

  11. I personally like it. At state last year every match had a pretty tough kid in it and it made watching more enjoyable to me. I think this way it means more to be a state qualifier. i see a lot of comments about teams not getting any state qualifiers, my advice is work harder and up your game - like start and get involved in a youth club, help out with the middle school team, bring in clinicians to work with your kids, make it exciting when you have home matches, for example we run out to music and wrestle under a spotlight, kids go to the mat to their own walk out song and we throw t-shirts to the crowd with each pin and make sure you have a special seating area for club and middle school kids so they can get close to the action. When i came to WCHS the program was really bad and then they moved us to region 5 and i was told not to expect to get anyone to state any time soon and my comment back was we just need to up our game and we did and became pretty competitive. i truly believe this will make wrestling better in Tennessee and not worse

  14. That's what I have said, be nice to have a spread package with all of them out there. Wouldn't hurt to have that in the closet. I think pruitt is of the adage that three things can happen when you pass and two of them are bad. I'm telling you that will come back to bite us.

  16. Mike was a good friend of mine. I’m so thankful we met. He interviewed me on the radio once and I’ll never forget it. I feel so bad for his family cause he was a great man. I can’t imagine how much he will be missed. Prayers for the Molder family and all of his loved ones.

  17. I mean, this is pretty much the case in every rural county in the state. If we ever had a city/county split in Henry County, we would be facing the same issues. We already see it at the middle school level (our city middle school blows the doors off the county middle school every year). Not saying people need to start whining or making excuses, it’s just the demographic reality of high school football.

  24. I had to go back and read a little bit but it looks like region 6 is going for the sweep lol. That’s a long time coming. To answer some of y’all’s questions the only two teams you have to worry about is East and Stratford coming out this region. Beginning of the year I said Stratford is going to be better then East but I guess they proved me wrong on the field.

  25. Sounds like a pitty party for Milan on this thread. What happened to getting your best 11 on the field and going out to play ball. Players get hurt, sick, and sometimes can not play. You have to adjust and go play ball. No one feel sorry for Milan. It happens on every team. SGC lost 3 of their starting 5 linemen again Northside before the half....

  26. I agree, I wouldn’t write R5 at all. Yes, they have great athletes. How do you combat that, coaching. I know outside of East Nashville R6 has the better coaching, and to me in the playoffs is where the cream rises to the top on the coaching side.

  30. The game officials didn't think so. Not one flag in spite of continual whining from the visiting sideline. That was just a butt kicking that night. Powell dominated that game from start to finish. If you were there you saw it for yourself.

  34. Someone asked what are Oakland's strengths, so here's my observations. I don't think that they are all that big, but their team speed is ridiculous, especially on defense. If you run straight at them, you can move the ball a bit, get a few first downs. You might even finish the game with more first downs than Oakland. But all those 1st downs are between the 20's. You're going to have to drive 80 yards every time, and very few teams are able to do that. Big holes close so fast because of their team speed. If you want to beat Oakland, you're going to have to break off some long runs/pass completions. They're very disciplined and well coached. So there won't be a lot of penalties, and they always seem to be in the right place. If you throw a lot of passes, we are going to intercept some of them. On offense, Oakland will score just about every time they get the ball, so you will have to keep up. They have some great backs and all of them are capable of taking it to the house from anywhere on the field. Oakland will run all day long if you let them, but they can throw effectively when they need to. Our QB is new this year and has gotten better every game. I'm not convinced that he can throw it deep, but is very good at completing 10-15 yarders and moving the chains. Horton is a world class receiver, but is not afraid to block. I'm a homer, so my prediction is Oakland by 14. Lets say 28-14. If I'm wrong, and we lose this game, then I'll be bummed out about it, but I'll be glad to have had a game against better competition. It will only make us stronger. So, now someone from LA, please share what we can expect from your team. What are the strengths and weaknesses? What or who should we look for?

  35. The 2 coaches don't care for each other going back to the 2011 semifinal game when then West coach Scott Cummings publicly accused Powell's defensive linemen of mimicking his QBs cadence. West had 7 or 8 false starts in the first half of that game alone, which saw Powell win 29-6 and advance on to play Henry County in the Blue Cross Bowl. Just something to add to the rivalry that is the Battle of Emory Road.

  40. My mother graduated from Robbinsville in 1940, I think thats good that Lenoir City got a game with them, after watching them against Oak Ridge last week I can see that they have motivated coaches and players determined to get better.

  41. Red Bank lost some guys from last year and are obviously a little inexperienced in some places but they are talented and have an excellent coaching staff so that makes them extremely dangerous. Eagles need to come out Friday night and control this game from start to finish, clean up the penalties and focus on Red Bank - can’t be looking ahead to Next weeks WV game.

  42. Coaching staff can almost fill a full roster - couple of QB's - stud center - linebacker - stud RB - couple o DB's - decent start.

  44. Poll the kids and they also say school isn’t necessary. Games not broken and doesn’t need to evolve. Leave it alone. The 97% and less talented teams should have the ability to strategize and win.

  46. 2014..... The Hill is led on offense by a little guy named McGue.... SH's offense basically consisted of hiking him the ball and then he would run around back and forth in the backfield until there was an opening in the defense and then took off like lightning down the field.... The Hill ran over everybody up here because nobody could match his speed.... The only blemish to the 11-1 record was a very close game to Brentwood Academy.... And this very confident Topper team rolled into Murvil on Nov 21 for a quarter-final game.... I had to sit on the Science Hill side because the Murvil side was packed.... Everybody knew how Murvil will scheme and prepare for each opponent but come on folks, the Rebels had never seen anything like this kind of speed before.... What were they going to do?..... About midway thru the 4th quarter, with Murvil up 45-0, Science Hill crossed the 50 yard line for the first time in the game.... And the crowd went mild.....

  47. Yea…I’m curious about this as well. The reality is that there are very few people who have seen both teams play. All of these predictions are based on history…what we know about Oakland and what we assume about LA. The only folks that have seen/analyzed both are probably media. Be prepared to be shocked when you see score predictions coming out next week…much closer than you may think.
