  1. Amazing how folks want to build Powell up to be more than they are. A really good team, yes, I just don't see them as this super defensive team. I'm sincere in saying that I think that West will prove to be a better team than you all are implying. I know that West is a better all around team than Rhea County (hard to admit about your own team). And I think that they probably are 3 to 4 touchdowns better. Put nine in the box against West and watch what happens. Back to my original prediction, West by 21 points. No skin off of y'alls back, it's my prediction. I respect your predictions, lol. You can laugh at mine. As for Rhea, they moved the ball the whole second half (wish they would have made adjustments before halftime). Just couldn't punch it in until about 5:30 left, about three or four plays after Walter went out unfortunately... In the 4th quarter, not at halftime, like your friends were saying. So, you might want to check on Powell's defense before Friday night. IF the big guy goes down again, it will be a really long night for Powell. Don't blame his stinger on "chop" blocks either, lol.

  2. I experienced it in 1969...the first year they ever had a playoff game. It was fun!! The team we played had allowed just 21 pts all year and was averaging close to 50 pts a game. They got across our 50 yd line once. That's been 52 years ago and I still remember that night. Hope all players from every team relish in it. If your lucky enough to win one in fifty years you can toot your horn like I'm doing now Good luck to y'all .

  3. HTV, Actually, I was using you as one who agreed with me, that the Powell defensive starters were not sitting on the bench the second half. No sour grapes here, we (Rhea County) got our rears handed to us. We lost by 14, FACT. Why do some folks like to argue with you when you are trying to agree with them? - Happy Thanksgiving to you all!!! Enjoy the game (s).

  4. Here is where you can hear the audio call from me and Ken Keller. Youtube.com/tualighttube. I've broadcast Tullahoma football for 30 years and this is the strongest team we've ever had. This matchup with Haywood seems to be pretty even on paper. Don't discount the experience Haywood earned last year by winning their semifinal game. Tullahoma is playing its first semifinal game since 1987 but has been to the quarterfinals in three of the past four years. The Air Force base does not directly contribute to the facilities or program at Tullahoma. The city financed the building of the new stadium (it was not a remodel), and the quarterback club bought the jumbotron, etc. Come on Haywood fans, make the drive and let's join together to give these young men a tremendous atmosphere Friday night.

  5. How has Bearden not made a hire yet? Their coach resigned on November 1st, correct? This week is the Final Four of the playoffs so most prospective candidate's current seasons are over or will be in the next 10 days. I understand that committee has brought in local candidates and some guys that have been out of coaching for a year or two. I just wonder if they will have someone hired before winter break.

  6. Maybe? I am sure we have met before. We both want what is best for kids and not just our kids in Trenton, but kids everywhere. Friday night will be an atmosphere that kids on both sides will remember for the rest of their lives. It is our responsibility as adults to make it as much about them as possible. I hope there is no shenanigan's in the stands and both fan bases remain respectful win or lose. Both teams have worked their butts off for years to get to this game. Don't matter who wins or loses these kids on both sides deserve an atmosphere that will be unmatched. From everyone I am talking to this will be the case. Which I feel is AWESOME!!!

  8. I'll be lazy and not read everything ,so this is from Batman's hip and it's been replaced. Oakland has everything going right now and it will take a great game to stop them . That's why they play the game and no matter what, Maryville will be right here no doubt next year and the next and so on .Best of luck to Maryville and a clean injury free game . Batman just came off of a nightshift,so if I've posted this already, folks who work 12 hour shifts know what it's like and understand. If you don't,just imagine Otis on Andy Griffith.

  9. No doubt if a team beats Alcoa and it does happen ,then they deserve much respect and it would be something for that school to remember going through Alcoa for a championship. My point is to those that feel like it's unfair because Alcoa is so good and a huge mountain to climb.I use to not like Tom Brady but at some point you just have to have respect and except what a team or individual has accomplished.

  10. Powell was mass substituting at that point and RC scored against backups, with just a few starters sprinkled in. Go back and watch it.

  12. This is quite possibly the most ludicrous statement I have heard on the coachT message board. So let me get this straight now, James, Horton and Hewitt have nothing to do with Oakland's success?

  14. I don't know that anybody from the previous thread was refuting there are bad referees and/or that there are bad and missed calls. IMO, the conversation went off rails at the insinuation that referees are decidedly trying to sway or influence games one way or another.

  16. No problem. This year is in memory of our good friend @FridayMainEvent. Yeah, I realized yall had moved up and that was the reason I didn't tag any of the other Waverly folks that played last year. Hopefully, with the upcoming enrollment count (next Sept ?) yall will able to slide back down amongst us the following year.

  20. I really don't have any reason to dislike Powell at all but I didn't care much for the circus that came to town and the faster West takes care of business the faster that U-Haul can get packed and get out of here.

  21. We are so fortunate to have him and his staff in Trenton! One of the best human beings I have ever met! Lord knows I have met many, but not many are on the caliber of Coach Jacob’s.

  23. Powell was up 27 before the first score by Rhea Co. in the 4th Qtr. I don't know RC schedule but were you ever down 27 in any of the other games.? Don't believe anyone has built them up, if anything, people who have been around the program take the opposite approach knowing that Powell has a way of losing games in the playoffs. Usually it's the game like Rhea Co. that they lose, but this time they didn't. West no doubt has a good team and will be a tough match for Powell as they have athletes that can compete with Powell's. Both teams are familiar with each other and have a nice rivalry on and off the field. Should be a nice matchup. But a reminder to you, Powell was up 27 in the 4th before you scored when you want to say Powell isn't this or that.

  24. Alcoa is a wonderful place to play. Loudon would have been mercy ruled by Alcoa and I think they have played them enough to understand that. Giles has enough speed at running back for Alcoa to be out of position and give up a big one or two. With this I see 42 - 14. This is one of the better Alcoa teams, in my opinion, then the last few years.

  25. It is a good idea to take lawn chairs if you don’t want to stand. There is very limited seating on visiting side. Especially if the band travels. I feel like this game will be overflowing with fans.

  26. Thats what most say who have never played them. but Alcoa will mercy rule every team in 3a. You included. Its not hype

  27. Alcoa had 566 in October 2014, which set the classes for the seasons after. Look it up. That set the classes for 2016 (five years ago). Yes they moved up, but without examining it closer I'm guessing 566 in 2A was a result of the ridiculous "Super 32" for the largest schools skewing the other class numbers. If they went from 2A, which you seem so proud of, why the hesitation on going from 3A? https://www.thedailytimes.com/sports/running-the-numbers-tssaa-releases-draft-of-2015-16-football-classifications/article_5ec0624d-75f2-589c-9741-aa3e902c111c.html Any school would enjoy a pair of mediocre at best, 1500-student football programs being just down the road.

  30. I hate to break it to ya, but they could move all the way up to 5A and the results would be the same. In a given year, there might be 5 public schools that could beat Alcoa

  32. Lol.....absolutely not! I'm not sure who's job that is. I'm just a glorified button pusher for down, distance, etc. All video and music on the board is done by others

  33. Why? Isn't the classifications based on enrollment? Alcoa is currently at 650 students with 59 players. That's squarely in the middle of 3A. You think Alcoa needs to be treated differently cause they win?

  35. The Panthers know what their up against. They haven’t saw this kind of offense all year but rest assured these boys will do everything Frost asks of them and more. Effort only goes so far and they know they are huge underdogs but don’t count them them just yet

  36. Give it to the coaching. 1. Great at adjusting to the size and talent on deck and still being competitive. 2. Getting a few ole country boys ready to play 48 minutes of football without much press, praise or fanfare; Facilities aren't much and uniforms, well, let's say they may make it thru the rest of this season Lol. A lot of these boys have played together since elementary and they play for each other and the community. Can't ask anymore than that. And yes, programs like these are extra special

  40. I haven't seen much film on Peabody this season but 3 state championships the last 3 years speaks for itself and also says a lot about the coaching staff. My opinions on McKenzie are as follows: - Tide keeps bring up the Huntingdon game and that the Stangs didn't have their starters set yet. If you go back and watch that game McKenzie didn't have it all together either. Their offense scored because the athleticism of Cassidy and Taylor can overwhelm any defense but the Rebel defense was not firing on all cylinders and still had much to learn about assignments, staying home, and reading the ball. Regardless the result was a McKenzie win over a very talented and hardnose H-Town team. (Obviously they were a good team because you guys took the L) -Speaking of defense the Rebel front 7-8 have stepped up big time in the playoffs. The pressure the d-line has been able to create in the backfield along with the linebackers (especially McCreary) being able to close on the ball have stifled the opposing offenses and has allowed some breathing room for the McKenzie offense as they are now facing legit defenses and not running up the score. This will be key in Fridays game and I expect the Rebel D to continue playing this way. Biggest weakness I see will be limiting defensive PI. McKenzie secondary is very athletic but height of their DB's has been an issue all season. -Offensively from what I saw Friday night the Rebel play-calling was predictable. If something works doesn't mean you have to run it 10 times in a row. Mix in some play-action, use the pass to open up the run game, pass some on first down, get the ball to Taylor in multiple ways (run and pass), and use McCreary when needed. O-line for McKenzie is solid but not all-world but the good thing about them is they get timely blocks and also Cassidy and Taylor don't need much time to create a play. -Finally McKenzie goes as Cassidy goes. He is smart, tough, humble, and a grinder. Willing to do whatever it takes to make a play on offense and defense. I see him as the reason McKenzie gets the W on Friday night. Rebels - 24 Tide - 16

  43. we got to Fayetteville early to eat, went to one of yalls more popular local spots, it was great!! as we were leaving, I ran straight into a guy in a tiger sweatshirt, first words out of his mouth<" welcome to Fayetteville, glad to have y'all", !! that's classy!! at the game, everyone was friendly, and accommodating.. we had to walk thru yalls, fan base outside the locker room to get to parking lot, never heard a cross word or a sly remark.. that's classy after a loss that most didn't expect. as for Mckenzie, we showed up as I expected. this community supports their kids 100% no matter what sport or competition! I want to extend a warm welcome to any Fayetteville fans that want to see a great ballgame Friday night, to rebel stadium and randy Thomas field, anyone in city orange will be more than welcome. also would like to add, anyone that knows the wonderful ladies at "Marvins Buffett" please thank them again for their hospitality toward our team and fan base. those ladies were and are awesome to accommodate us after the game. congrats to Fayetteville on a great season, and look forward to meeting some of y'all again, whether this week or next year. remember, y'all welcome here anytime, we will save ya a seat on south side bleachers. Fayetteville is class act and community in this rebel fans book. good luck in the future

  44. Congratulations on your hard fought victory. The game was like I expected--two heavyweights slugging it out until the end, only I was hoping the Tigers would come out on top. Too much laundry but I thought not one-sided or biased. Both teams stalled themselves, helped the other, exchanged turnovers, and prolonged drives with penalties. Your QB was the deciding factor imo. Very athletic and hard to bring down. He kept drives alive on 3rd or 4th downs with his legs. #7 was good, but wasn't the giant killer, pound you til you drop, send in the second string kind of player (last night) that I have been reading about. I'll be worried to go against him again next year, stronger, faster/more mature. I thought the Tiger goal=line stand in the first quarter would set the tone for rest of the game. It kind of did--a slugfest. I thought that 95 yd TD run would rattle McKenzie. It did, until it got called back. I thought that the Rebel players having to play offense and defense that they would wear down by the mid-third quarter or fourth. There were some hands on hips, but they still had gas in the tank in the last few minutes of the game. I thought we could drive down field at the end of the game for the win or the tie. I didn't think your defense could stop our run game. It did, Up to the last 4th and 1 around mid-field. Then your coach was classy enough to go into the V formation to kill the clock and game. I also wanted to high five your fan base. The visitor stands looked packed and were definitely loud supporting their team. The ones I spoke with were very complimentary and good people. Sorry we ran out of food! Good luck in the next few weeks--you will represent the West well. Also, hope to see you next year at McKenzie!
