  1. Congrats to both teams on great postseason runs. East Nashville had to win at Waverly, at Smith County, and at Covington. Pearl-Cohn had to win at Lexington and at Haywood. Good Luck to both teams next week at the State Championships.

  2. I’ve said it for 3 weeks and I’ll say it again. Wanna know why AC gets their 1st gold ball? A Tony Lambert coached D will get it done.

  3. Haywood seniors, you have a lot to be proud of. Over the past 4 years you have been an integral part of Tomcat teams who have: -won 48 games and lost 8 (winning 10 or more games each season) -won four Region 7-4A championships while going undefeated in region play -made four state semifinal appearances and one final appearance -set a season-record scoring average of 49.6 points per game (2022 season) I would like to thank you for your contribution to the annals of Haywood High football. Your talent, athleticism, and accomplishments have made it a pleasure to watch you play, and I’d like to wish you the best in your future endeavors. Haywood underclassmen, you also have a lot of talent and athleticism, and I’d like to thank you for your contribution to Haywood’s success. Continue to work hard in the off season, and I look forward to another exciting and successful season in 2023. I’d also like to thank Coach Smith and staff for your time and hard work. I know this will fall on deaf ears, but I would like to make a plea to the Haywood County School Board and County Commission. I am a strong believer in academics, but athletics also plays a huge part in the success of our students and our school. Athletics brings our community together. I know there is a lot of money to be spent on infrastructure with the arrival of Blue Oval City, and I know improvements need to be made to our school facilities. Please find a way to use some of that money to make improvements to our fieldhouse and athletic facilities (stadium). You won’t regret it.

  4. Glad West got the W, they were the best team all year. Knew Powell would put up a fight. It’ll be interesting to see how both teams look next year, especially Powell now that all of their prized…..”players” are gone.

  5. Tyner has a good team. Tyner beats McKenzie by 2 td’s just looking at how things would match up. Tyner has a monster D line and great speed And that’s not fair to McKenzie to make that fantasy matchup prediction because they have a good team but Tyner is just that good IMO

  6. Pulling for West and Lamar. He deserves himself a championship.

  7. Means you didn't believe in your team, sad fan you are! Next time if you're going to come on a thread and try to troll a fan group at least be big enough to comment before the game instead of being a little man and stating the obvious after the game. I haven't once cried . I was on here after the game and congratulated AC for finally getting the Devil Monkey off their back and that the better team won. I can eat my crow just fine little man

  8. Y’all teeth got kicked in and y’all lost lmao! The fans wrote Anderson County off and they beat y’all which was my point about letting the game play out. Stop crying

  12. I agree Pun. Huntingdon has some of the best fans, and they have been a class act on the T with us all season. They also have some of the best radio announcers around for high school football.

  14. Not what I think he should, but it has picked up. I have been around this game for a while and have spent quite a bit of time talking with college coaches over the years. He checks the boxes (strong, fast, physical). It’s a bit of a head scratcher.

  15. I enjoyed looking at your poll this season. I'd tweak it here and there, but for the most part looks good.

  17. I would like to see Clinton play AC, Gibbs, Halls, Farragut, Central, and HVA as some possible non-region games. And yes I would like to see all three schools play each other to have a true county championship type trophy.

  21. I’m a girly girl but raised on football so here it goes… I’ve been following high school football in the Knoxville area for years and West might be one of the most complete teams I have seen. All you have to do is watch the interaction between the coaches and players during a game. The deep connection and bond they have drives that hunger for a win TOGETHER. One team, one focus mentality and true leadership. Just because you’re undefeated doesn’t mean you’re not the underdog. West has been the underdog year after year with littered Twitter trash talk to bad ref calls. West, you have more than earned your place with a ton of hard work and heart. As they say, “ball don’t lie”!! Go get the gold!!!!!

  22. Then start calling the ones in Middle TN. This state needs more marquee games that feature East/Middle v. West

  23. They cover the tri-county area, Anderson, Morgan, and Roane. The owner is a graduate of Coalfield.

  24. As for Latham getting flagged I think it was more he was standing over or in the face of the Powell player. Both him and Greene were yapping all night but Greene wasn't in anyone's face while doing it. And that wasn't just any teammate chewing out Latham it was his brother

  26. I get what you are saying. I do. But...since MAHS closed, those kids had to go somewhere so it would be prudent for them to go somewhere together, and with their coach. If McKenzie or Peabody were a charter school, and they got shut down, do you not think those kids would not follow Jacobs or Comer to the new school, if they could? Absolutely they would! I would guess if these charter schools keep popping up like our Governor wants, then the TSSAA will have to address it eventually.

  27. I agree with this. And losing Gaylor and Ellis were a huge hit. Gaylor was the best defensive coordinator in the state in my opinion. I guess my point was the current staff has regressed some the last couple years in my opinion. They’re obviously still a great staff and Maryville will always be right there every year, but they have a lot of work to do to get back to championship level.

  28. I would agree with most on this thread that the Rebels will be the favorite. But....This is the state championship and we are going to have to bring the same intensity as we did last night vs MASE. There are no bad teams playing nex weekend, and I can assure all that the Rebels respect Clay County. As I put in other threads, no need for me to make a prediction on who I think is going to win. The icon on the left will tell you that. Looking for a good ballgame and injury free.

  29. Well said... some changes need to be made. Imagine with the right support and facilities what this team could accomplish. The schedule is shaping up next season and some folks looking for tougher games may be happy.

  30. Picking the Mavs. I hope they don’t change much. Just do what they do very well. It got them to the Championship.

  32. This thread was just a though exercise. There are some who think you can't win in high school unless you are slinging it all over the field. I'm just wondering, unless you had an exceptional QB and receivers (all D1 prospects) would it be better to spend most of practice time learning something simpler, run blocking and running and build a solid offense out of that? "Simpler" in the preceding sentence just means less moving parts to the play. I dunno guys, I see so many high schools who come out of each huddle and line up in dozens of different formations and so forth.... and most of those teams were sitting at home eating turkey leftovers yesterday. How many pass plays does Oakland have? What about Knox West? That's right, they line up and concentrate on doing ONE singular thing well instead of trying to complicate it so much. I remember about 10 years ago watching the 6 playoff games in Cookeville, it was weird because that year Maryville was the only game where a team passed more than 5 times. These are high school kids, not elite NFL players. Well I've had my say, as always please respond with dissenting views.

  33. Thanks Sweet! I think we have what it takes. Lot of drop pass and throws tonight. Turnovers and yet we pulled through. Very muddy conditions something we are not use to. I think we use our weapons play smart like we did most of year and use our new defense coach strategy we should rock and roll.

  39. Alcoa continues to be the gold standard in 3A football. Proud of the effort Giles showed all night (and all season), but they just didn't have the horses to run on offense. Alcoa will still win easily next week even without Harris and Cannon, but I hope those guys make a safe and speedy recovery. Really surprised the coaching staff sent them back out there after two nasty looking injuries in the first half.

  40. Fayetteville was the best Class A team I’ve seen this year and McKenzie beat them by 2 at home so I’ve got to believe they are just as good obviously. Clay is a huge underdog in this one. No one will expect them to be in the game so they won’t have anything to lose! They have athletes all over the field that much is for sure. For those of you that don’t know about Clay County I’d do my research. They had one of their own playing on ESPN tonight for the Tennessee Vols basketball team as a starter! This small school is no stranger to championship games. Most of these boys have one state championship ring already from the hard court in 2021’. So they will show up regardless of how big of an underdog they may be.

  42. Great heavyweight battle there. Good to see Lamar Brown get a shot at a title. Biggest difference with these two programs, is there’s one coach you would love for your son to play for, and one you wouldn’t. Figure that out as you want.
