  1. This game is what high school football should be.. 2 communities proud of their kids and their school. Should be a nice night and great crowd. The outcome will be decided by which line plays the best. Dare say there will be as much talent as any A or AA game all season. But talent without effort is like Apple Pie without ice cream... just leaves you disappointed.

  3. Totally Agree StewMan! The Wavers are overrated! Aint nobody gonna be happier than me when they go 6A. Then again theyll have more to blame for their loss of tradition then. I tell you though, after that close loss and 3-7 year SC had, they comin out blazin! Dont count em out! SC 55 Wavers 7 Always good to hear your 2 cents GWAVE

  4. That's a real good question. My guess is nothing. I say that because the team could have easily gone 4-6 last year had it not been for the athleticism of Booker at QB. His biggest yardage plays were broken. Heck, he made the OC look good all year bc of his ability to create positive yardage after broken plays. The truth is....if there was going to be a change....it would have to be at OC...heck, the entire O staff needs realignment. There is no excuse for a WR to run the wrong route, give up on a play, etc. We saw that all scrimmages and in the 1st game of the season. The truth is...the OC couldnt do it with several athletes now playing at the collegiate level....how is he going to do it with this squad? Easy....he ain't. The WR coach needs a new assignment. I mean come on?! Wrong routes? Giving up on plays? Oh come on man?? I've seen some really small teams at OR over the years...this is one of the smallest. But I also saw underrated, small and slow Wildcats lay it on hard and win. Coaching....key is good coaching. On the O side of the ball...we aint got it. End of the day, we have what we have. A small team, not a lot of speed but those kids have heart. Both sides of the ball. If I were the HC...I would either take over play calling entirely or make a change. It's long overdue and we've all seen what happens to a HC that doesnt get with the times. It's painfully obvious this OC and staff need fixin. Special teams...aside from the kicker kicking deep on kick offs....horrible. What was going on with the botched snap...and the holder? What on earth was going on there. My two cents....the D will do what they do, keep them in the game....but my gosh.....COME ON....in the least, spread the ball around.....get you playmakers the ball...not the WRs who continue to run the wrong route or flat out give up on a play. Our O line can give the QB just enough time to get the ball out....at least get some WRs out there who are willing to play with heart. I know 15 can catch. Seen him catch time and time again. Why didnt he get a snap? End of the day, the OC, Offensive Staff and general play calling all needin fixed. Aint nothing going to change until a change there is made. I know, its only 1 game....but yall don't need a magic crystal ball to predict the season....and it aint pretty.

  5. Yes u are right a lot had to do with being on the road, hostile environment, first start, freshman, playing for HC. The last half of the year should be looking pretty good.

  7. Oh ok, thought maybe you had some experience training quarterbacks or something. He’s always looking to hone his skills. I’m probably way too biased to really comment on this, but if he had any balls flutter... it was most likely due to his fluttering heart. He’ll let one slip sometimes.. but his mechanics are usually pretty sound. I figure a lot of it had to do with his first start, on the road, in a hostile environment, and a bunch of 6’3” 230 pound dudes trying to kill him. He’s definitely got a lot of work to do, much room for improvement, and nowhere near where he wants to be as a player. He’s his own worst critic, and his Daddy is a close second, but I think he’ll be okay as the season goes. No excuses, he has to get that out of his system and play much better to help his team be successful.. and hopefully he will. It won’t be from lack of effort, because the kid works really hard. We’ll see what happens. Go Big Red.

  8. I read thru posts.. and as expected most are thinking SH Lions run away with this. With a big win last week, & Dresden's woodshed whooping, it just seems logical to think SH will have an easy time of it. BUT.. them spankings can do the trick & bring about big changes in a short time! And with the unknown factor being there with new coach(es), no telling what may happen. That 'ol saying, Any team can beat another team on any given day (or something like that) ain't fairy tale stuff. The guaranteed games are never guaranteed (And now the "realists" & "pragmatists" chime in with their irrefutable stats & logic.. blah, blah). I will, as always, pull for Dresden to surprise everyone with a big W. And my health & life circumstances, at the moment, may keep me from attending any games this year. It's a smack in my mouth, gut shot, & throat punch all rolled into one, but it is what it is. I'll face this like athletes have to- of all ages & sports. Back in my day I played them all & finally settled on boxing. I liked riding the buckboard to practice instead of my horse- ha! But we all have to go one day at a time, and never quit, give in, give out, nor give up, just give it your all. That's why I enjoy sports so much, it's training for real life & real events. Friday night I say: GO LIONS (DRESDEN that is!). YOU CAN DO IT! (btw.. any online radio stations carrying our game?). p.s., As to LC, if they run up score on us, #### for tat man. That always increased my motivation to do better & be better so it'd never happen again. And the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th stringers (who keeps on scoring) want to show out too & earn more playing time. It's all good imho & part of the game. Just don't taunt nor rub another's face in it. That's crossing the line & if coaches see that, better nip it in bud! And if that's the attitude & culture instilled into a team, time for a new coach! ASAP! Don't care who it is. But, that's just the myopic view of this old hick from the sticks. I don't know any better. LIONS ALL THE WAY! WOOO-WHOO!

  9. So far I'd say we have a better run defense then last year. Pass defense I'm not sure about yet. We haven't been tested much in the air but that should change this Friday dramatically. The verdict is still uncertain at this point. Come Friday we will know alot about our team I believe. Too early for us to see that far ahead lol. We just want to escape Friday with a win.

  13. I cracked up reading the article in the times Sunday morning. Reporter made it sound like Alcoa was outnumbered 3 1 in players. Rankin must have those guys brainwashed. Alcoa is as talented as any team in Tennessee. They dress 90 players almost every year now.

  19. We have to be able to stretch offenses out and not run the same basic plays routinely to help our line out. It looked like Gordonsville loaded the box and kept stunting from what little video clips I seen. If we are going to win and be what we need to be then we will have to stretch teams out and help our line by not allowing teams to load the box and wait for # 4 to touch the ball over and over!

  20. I love the Wildcats but this team shouldn't be in the top ten. I hope they improve but they have a long way to go. Not enough speed, size, or athletic ability to be a top ten team.

  26. Why yes...yes I do. One team throws that brown thing to the one player they call the Quarterback, and he tries to give it to other teammates by various methods. They then try to advance the ball down the field, while the other team tries to tackle the man with the ball. It all makes for a very good time.

  27. best of luck...my buddy over in big city McKenzie....lol...keeps me up to date on all things Bulldog and Rebel...he went to both schools and was on one of the milan teams that lost to alcoa in the title game back in either 08 or 09.....i dont think he was a starter, but was on the team....His dad he says was a prominent player in getting the field house i beleive built.

  28. Alcoa and that years irish team are 2 different animals. Playing at TTU that year did give UHS the advantage..putting the irish on grass would of been to their benefit..They had one of the best MLB i have saw in high school football. He missed one play and York burnt them while he was out.

  29. Thank you for that. I try to praise him but also keep him humble, and tell him to enjoy the ride instead of worrying about the destination all the time. He’s a very smart, driven, and down to earth kid.. and was watching film with his ice packs Friday night after the game when I walked into his room. I’m more proud of his work ethic and the type of man he’s becoming than I’ll ever be of him as a football player. Hopefully we’ll see some improvement this week in Hendersonville. The road definitely doesn’t get any easier. Good luck to you all as well. GBR

  36. I’ll let you in on a little fact. No matter who Huntingdon schedules outside of the district, I can’t make that team competitive. The 4 teams that Huntingdon plays is usually competitive in their classes.

  38. Was it Paul Harvey that used to say, “And now the the rest of the story ...”? Here’s a little addition to the excellent video about the Rebels’ summer mission trip. Seth Hair is in my youth group at FBC Maryville. He got back from that trip on a Friday ... did his laundry that evening ... and drove all night with his dad to Charleston to join his FBC youth group for their summer mission trip. Drove through the night and was out working with our youth on mission projects the next day, and the next week.

  42. Well your perspective is wrong lol! Our coach knows what adjustments to make but he can only motivate players to step up and play with fight. At some point the players have to get it done on the field. That fight comes from within the heart of the individual. Mental mishaps can be fixed by putting in extra effort in the film room and accepting constructive criticism. The players who really want it will find & welcome the help to get better. It first starts with “want to”! You are only as good as your weakest link or links. We fix just the line issues and we are immensely better and defensive needs to learn and understand their assignments so they can play full speed and be in position to tackle and make a play. Trust me they get coached! Each player needs to decide if they want to show up for practice to learn and get better or whine and make excuses pointing the finger.

  43. Weak play calling has cost Huntingdon 2 trips to the semifinals. I will never be convinced otherwise. This group of boys do not deserve for it to happen for a 3rd time.

  46. Here are the returning medalists from last year. I went ahead and updated the grade they will be in next season. It's hard to pick at the lighter weights because those guys move around so much. Half the time we don't even know what weight they'll be at until region individuals. That being said, the only wrestlers I'd feel confident picking to win are Coffey at 220, Sacharczyk at 182, and Pietarila at 160. Isbell repeating seems like a safe bet, but you never know who might come up or drop. 106 1st- McDaniel, Jr (Cleveland) 2nd- Calvin, Jr (McGavock) 3rd- Ivy, Jr (Morristown-West) 4th- Wilson, Sr (BC) 5th- Dindl, So (Bartlett) 6th- South, Jr (SC) 113 1st- Bradford, Jr (Cleveland) 2nd- Borders, Jr (WC) 3rd- Shires, So (Rossview) 4th- Watkins, Jr (DB) 5th- Koss, Sr (Bartlett) 6th- O'Daniel, Sr (BC) 120 2nd- Artiles, Sr (Collierville) 126 2nd- Mann, Jr (SH) 4th- Fisak, So (WC) 5th- Medina, Sr (Riverdale) 6th- Moore, Sr (Rossview) 132 1st- Isbell, Sr (Clarksville) 4th- Williams, Sr (Rossview) 5th- Seely, Sr (SH) 6th- Ables, Jr (Cent) 138 4th- Hurst, Jr (DB) 5th- Fort, Jr (WC) 145 3rd- Meade, Jr (Bearden) 5th- Frye, Sr (SH) 152 5th- Harter, Jr (SH) 160 2nd- Pietarila, Sr (Hardin Valley) 4th- Stone, Sr (WC) 5th- Feldhacker, Sr (Brentwood) 170 4th- Smith, Sr (Clarksville) 5th- Meeks, Sr (EH) 182 2nd- Sacharczyk, Sr (Blackman) 6th- Palmieri, Sr (Northwest) 195 6th- Brumlow, Jr (EH) 220 1st- Coffey, Sr (Brentwood) 5th- Shelton, Jr (Jeff Co.) 6th- Boyce, Sr (Blackman) 285 2nd- Langford, Jr (Walker Valley) 3rd- Dawson, Sr (Collierville) 5th- Linderman, Jr (Clinton)
